I am planning on getting a mold for the .30 carbine round. Has any of the forum members used the n.o.e. 311-121-RN-H5 mold? It looks like it might work ok. If not any other ideas. The rounds will be used for poking paper at 50 and 100 yds. Thanks. mike

Mike, I was thinking of getting that one for my carbine, but the thing doesn't want to shoot well enough to justify a mould for it.  I've been shooting the RCBS bullet that looks just like it, but it casts .308", and I have to beagle it up to size - then the GCs don't want to fit, have to expand them.  Pain in the arse, as Pat would say.  But the N.O.E. bullet looks just right for the Carbine.

I bought the RG4 version a while ago for my Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Carbine and as a light bullet for my other .30 cals. Haven’t used it yet, thanks for the reminder! BTW, NOE has .30 Carbine load data for this bullet on their website.

Know your chamber/throat dimensions and order a mold from Accurate that meets the rifle’s specs or go potluck and waste money buying NOE’s and the others ‘take it or leave it’ one size fit’s all molds. Yes, I do not like NOE’s business practices one bit.

Accurate Molds are by far the best. My opinion of course.

I have one.  Also have a 311359.  Best that can be said for use in the carbine is 6 of one, half dozen of the other.  Now out of the 7.62 NATO at 100 yards the best it would do was about inch an a half to 2 inch with 8 grains of Clays.  Not much good with the usual charge of 4227 or 5744.  There are better mold out there, but it depends on your purpose.  Lee has a mold that looks a lot alike for a less price.  Mabe you want to spend the money on powder and primers?  I'm happy when at 100 yards with my carbine if I keep all the rounds in the black, always seems to have a few that want to go into left field.

Lyman at one time made the 311576 specifically for the carbine, don't know of it is still a stock item.  Had it but gave it to a friend that was casting for his carbine.  Do have the NOE 311-115 which is very similar but use it for mouse fart loads in my 1903A3 and a Ruger #3 in 30/40.  Accurate out to about 50 yards with 5 grs of Bullyeye but beyond that not so much.  Not sure how it would work in the carbine at higher velocities.  Only other experience with the carbine was aout half a century ago, guy I shot with loaded the Lyman 130 gr 311410 in front of 2400 but don't recall what the load was but it did function the carbine.

I believe we are all talking about the almost same bullets.  The photos of the 311576 has a shorter nose and 2 full lands. The NOE 311-121-RN-H5 has a slightly longer nose and the gas check shank is moved into the lower land.

I went through the targets I kept for the carbine last night.  Most targets went into the trash barrel.  The best targets were made by the Lyman 311465, followed by 311359 and bringing up the rear was the NOE.  Powders used were 4227, H-110 and W-W296, there used to be a difference between 110 & 296.  I need to get a new stock, mine is in bad shape, but the barrel is perfect.  It is a $20. Thanks everyone for your input. It does seem like both lyman and rcbs are over valuing their molds. The accurate molds in the bullet weight I need have large meplats. I will give them a call and see what they say about how they will feed in a semi auto.
