I've tried coated bullets in pistols but never a rifle. Any advice?

What brand powder did you use on those bullets?

I shot coated in my 7.62x39 PB in the last match and they shot really good. So much I'm trying other powdercoat Plainbase tomorrow in my 30-06

The powder fouling build up behind the bullets is what hurts accuracy the most...isn't it? A powder coated bullet just rides over hard powder fouling until barrel is cleaned

The only thing im noticing what the powdercoat adds  .002. These 2 bullets I had to seat deeper than when I was just lubing  them traditionally. We shall see how accuracy is.

  • For me the eastwood ford blue powder has worked the best so far. I tried the harbor freight red and black and had trouble getting consistent coverage. With my 30-40 loads I found i could run a softer cast bullet faster without leading up the barrel. This might be helpful if you want an expanding bullet. As far as accuracy it was about the same as uncoated for me. The bore was an easy clean up after using the powder coated pills?, slugs?, caps?, boolits?, hollapena's?, oh yeah bullets. (lol

The .002” increase in diameter on the bore riding section has been the issue for me. Loaded rounds are difficult / impossible to chamber. Some day I will buy a custom mold.

agree on the .002 needing molds adjusted to compensate for this.

Would casting in lino drop the diameter down .002 ?

What do you do with a big batch of bullets that you drop from a multi cavity mold during a long casting session, powder coat them, and they don’t fit the bore?  Bill C

PC does add about .002 to the dia. Can be a problem on some bore riders in some rifles and makes them useful in others. The shape bullet you are using should give no problem, just seat a little deeper if necessary. You can size before, after or both. Used Eastwood Ford Blue.

Other than the bore rider problem PC works great in rifles. I don't use it for everything but it"s another tool in the box.

Last group I shot was with an Enfield #4 that was scoped, 12 of 13 shots  were in 2 inches at 100 yds. The one shot out made 3 inches. Bad bullet is my excuse.134

I don't use bore ride bullets and taper them a bit for a better fit so adding a couple of thousandth is no problem for me. Both bullets in the picture are sized and tapered.

I should have tapered the two I pictured for a better fit in the throat. I got lazy

It's a NOE something or other. Can't remember offhand. It's a plain base and I've had off and on luck with it.
