My 22rf martini

Bought one of the 22rf BSA martini's some years back. Talk about copper fouling. And large lumps of leading. All the bore brushing I did removed the copper fouling(green color on patches with Hoppes. Installed a new cocking lever and wanted to check the firing pin strike. Had some old Montgomery and Wards ammo. First round fired showed that the firing pin strike was right where it was supposed to be. So fired a few more rounds to double check and all were perfect. Took it back inside and ran a couple patches to clean it and the lumps were gone. Then used a one piece cleaning rod and bronze bore brush with a few passes.  Nothing on the patches. Was I surprised. This particular martini has the Canadian ownership Capital C with an arrow inside the C. Probably going to send it out and have it drilled and tapped so I can mount a scope on it. But with covid all local ranges are closed. So looks like I won't to shoot it for a long time. Frank

Frank,

i feel for you people who have been, and still are shut in and unable to participate in your favorite recreation. I hope you have good success with your Martini. They are wonderful little rifles. Sounds like that one had been a refugee from a cleaning rod for a long time.

Which model is it? I picked up a BSA International MKII last week. Wind forecasts for the weekend don't look promising for targeting it. My Model 12 is a long time favorite - it shoots right along with my Ballard/Pope and Model 52A. Gotta love a Martini. (Shaken, not stirred.)

This is a comprehensive UK website for BSA .22 LR target rifles under the "Target and Sporting Rifles dropdown. You can find a close definition of your rifle here. They also include Winchester and Remington .22 LR target rifles.

My childhood dream was to own a BSA Martini after I shot my uncle's .310 Martini on ground squirrels. That experience began a life-long love of falling block single shot rifles.

Never had a Martini that shot like my Model  52.

Just lost power while typing in my post. Anyway, have two 22rf martini's. Possibly a model 12 or 12/15 that needs the extractor welded and recut. Get case bulges with standard velocity ammo. The 2nd one is an ex Canadian what looks to be a model 13 take down. Except it isn't a takedown anymore. Barrel is threaded like a normal barrel and the takedown pin is cut in two and just used to fill in the holes. That is the one I mentioned being heavily copper fouled, and leaded. Then there is my cadet martini. Original barrel was badly pitted and corroded. Have another BSA barrel with brite shiney bore. Except the outside is lightly pitted. Frank

Did a lot of fun accurate shooting with my BSA 12/15 with Irons and later with a Lyman STS mounted on it.

Have since picked up a LH International MKII. Great rifle I have wanted since I was in my teens- High School

rifle club instructor had one, and let me shoot it occasionally instead of the Rem 513s.  A real tackdriver.  I now

have a Unertl 2" x 20X on it .

Last, I love plinking with my Martini Cadet that had been rebored to 357 Mag -Klein's in Chicago in late '50s

My International lived up to its reputation. With two out of three lots of Tenex I tried it returned 1/4" accuracy at 50 yards. 20x Super Targetspot scope. Wednesday she spits at 100 yards, and I have another lot of Tenex and a bunch of Lapua to try too. Between this one and the Ballard Stevens/Pope I'm thinking the 52 might have to bow out.

(As an aside, the Pope/High Wall .32-40 is percolating pretty good too. Can't wait for the first Schuetzen match.)
