To the best of my knowledge, there are none available in the US. There are some Finn wildcats that are based on the Russian case, but they are not available in the US either. The 1891 case design was unique and no other countries used it for the basis of another cartridge, since rimless cases were already taking over the designs for bolt guns.

Graf's has Lapua and Norma cases available. No PPU though.

I have found PPU brass to be less than desirable.  The primer pockets get real loose real quick.  I have been buying S&B loaded rounds for less than $20/box and reusing the brass from them.

Norma and Lapua brass is very good . Just check the lenght of the cases , they are 54 mm long while the russian brass is 53mm.  Or the other way round ,my memory is failing. Anyhow the finnish brass is marked x54 and the Czech Sellier & Bellot are marked  x53 .

Check the bore and throat diameters , usually the russian are larger , and the finnish run a little smaller .

And try the different bullet diameters , Jacketed  bullets ( wicked habit , shooting jacketed bullets) run from 308 to 311 , and my russian short carbine likes 314 cast bullets.  I have put aside the spike bayonet , and  put a pistol scope on the base of the rear sight , and made a russian  "scout rifle” , a bit heavy but a great fun  tuy for offhand  plinker and gong player .

Buy the best brass  you can find , and neck size  as little as you can , and your brass will last  almost forever .

Why form them when new brass is available?

When I first got interested in the Finnish import rifles and had several, I bought 1000 virgin Norma cases from Grafs, this was back in the 1980s.  I've carefully managed that brass, re-annealing occasionally, very lightly neck turning just to uniform the thick or "high" spots, uniforming flash holes and primer pockets. I neck size only.  One boxed batch of 100 segregated cases for the M28/30 has been reloaded over 500 times with cast bullet loads.

Any PPU or S-B range pickup brass I glean I use for hunting loads where I can shoot and toss.

I figure my stash of Norma match-prepped brass is worth more than my M28/30 and M39 rifles together.

I've had good luck with the Czeck Seller and Bellot brass.  It's one heck of a lot cheaper than Lapua or Norma.  I'm up to 5 reloades in the cases.

Just thought I would chime in. While I am as guilty as anyone, I am amazed that we always want to take the weakest part of the gun (the brass case) and spend as little as we can on it. We use them over and over and properly cared for may last as long as we need them to. I have mostly PPU/NNY (Serbian) brass for my M39. I have never had an issue with either cast or jacketed. As an experiment I recently got some Lapua and all I can say is wow. While not a benchrest rifle the M39 seems to really like this new brass. No muss or fuss, just load and shoot, load and shoot, load and shoot. It was $100 well spent in my opinion. Just my two cents and my thoughts. The Finn's know how to make a rifle shoot.

On cases, you get what you pay for. I'm as thrifty as anyone, but when I wanted to know how good I could make my Finn 28/30 shoot, it was in Lapua cases.

Thanks fellows.  The cases I have now ( and have ever had are Lapua ).  I have shot them at least 5 or 6 times.  I just recently got an RCBS neck sizing die.  I just loaded 25 rounds and I'm off to the range today, weather permitting.  I also got a front sight adjustment tool and adjusted my front sight !!!

Thanks again..........

I have to agree with the sentiment to "buy the best brass you can find"!  Considering how long Ed has been using his stash, and how Wineman experienced improved accuracy with his Lapua brass, perhaps as the old ads say "It costs more to be without it!"

If some cheap brass "lets go" it will cost you more in gun damage than it has ever saved you.  This is assuming you escape injury completely, which if you are wearing proper shooting glasses and hearing protection, should be true, but it is not guaranteed.

Kind of like tires on a car.  Find some other area to be cheap in, this is "safety related" as we say in the nuclear industry.

M3 Mitch,

I agree with you and Ed that is one reason I use PPU brass. It is a great buy for the quality you get. I have and use both Lapua and PPU and have been very happy with both. PPU is annealed properly and is very tough. Inexpensive does not mean cheap.

Oh, I agree, I didn't express myself very clearly.  By "cheap" brass I meant "dodgy" brass, and/or worn out brass.  Range pick-up, you don't know where it came from or how many loads it has seen, that sort of thing.  PPU seems to be quality stuff at a relatively good price, but my experience with it (so far) is non-existent.  But, I mean, look at CZ firearms in general, a quality piece at a very attractive price.

I shot lots of 54r PPU brass and have never had any issues with it thus far, not even the once fired case I bought from the local indoor range back several years ago that would only alloy you to shoot there SP ammo as they didn't allow bi metal jacketed bullets or steel case ammo.  I ended up with about 500 pieces for ten cents a case.

Last year me and my buddy ran across a gentle that has lots of new assorted brass for sale at a good price.  we ended up buying it together and selling off the calibers we couldn't use some being very expensive and selling it to other reloaders at 40% off retail.

After all was said and done we still cleared enough to pay the original purchase cost as well as shipping and got some free brass to boot. I walked away with this and I gave my brother the other half.

I am having a hell of a time finding load data for my cast rounds. Where does everyone get their load data for this?

I am loading cast bullets for 7.62x54r. I have the LEE Mold C312-18-1R 185 Grain and the Lee 312-160-2. I use gas checks with both and power coating on the rounds. I would love to get a good starting load for these that maybe others have used with ANY powders.

If at all possible I would like to get load data using these cast rounds with H380 and/or Ramshot Big Game. These two powders are what I have on hand right now. Everything is so crazy with getting powders and primers right now I don’t know if I will be able to find any 2400 or IMR. If I can use what I have on hand till things get a bit more predictable in acquiring reloading supplies that would be great... Thanks all!

Years back Federal used to sell loaded ammo in white boxes under the "American Eagle" brand. The 7.62x54r cases were made by Norma and had the NP stamped on the top of the primer. Every so often I run into this ammo and buy all that is available. They also did a run of 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser using Norma brass. I believe that other calibers were made under the same brand. Last few years haven't seen any of this for sale. But with the current run on reloading components some may surface so if you see it grab it. Have no experience with the PPU -NNY 7.62x54r brass but if it's anything like the 7.5 Swiss and 7.65x53mm Argentine Mauser brass I have been using then it's great brass. Frank
