I shoot occasional vintage military matches at a club in central CA.  We use an electronic scoring system that requires the bullet be supersonic at the target distance of 200 yds.  I have long used the “universal load”     of 16g 2400 behind the Lyman 314299 or 311334 in my ‘03A3 but there was an occasion when a shot failed to register on the target.  I suspect my bullets are barely supersonic at the target.  Would increasing the charge to 17g give enough velocity or should I go to 18g or more?

Pete,

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook  3rd edition says that bullet should be doing about 1400 fps at the muzzle to be comfortably supersonic at 200 yards.  My 03-A3 does 1450 fps with 17 grs. of 2400 and the 314299, so kicking your charge up a grain should do the trick

I shot the 311284 for years, but to stay supersonic at 200, I had to load 18 grains. They weighted 215 grains so lighter should be less. My understanding is that those systems also do not function with "transonic" bullets either.
