This is strictly non-scientific.After using Lee Wiggins tumble method on my 32-40 PB/BS with OK results , I decided to copy his efforts using Accurate Molds 190-J bullet, 184 gr of 3 lino 1 ww, gas checked and tapered in an Eagan taper die. All bullets are from the same lot. They were tumble lubed with a very small piece of White lable 2500+.

I shot four 5shot groups at 100 yds on a chilly windy day yesterday and my groups opened up to over 1" as opposed the the previous days sub moa groups with bullets lubed with the blue stuff in just the GC groove. Like I said, not scientific but worth a try. What was evident was the extremely clean barrel. One dry patch and all the black fouling was gone.

I also played with 2 things that are common topics. Weight sorting and crooked bases - crooked gas checks. The group with crooked GC's was 6.5 inches.       The group that was 2 full grains spred was about the same as the tumble lubed groups. Still bigger than normal for me but not as opened up as I expected.

Ross,

Good to see some experimenting being done and reported on.  I hope you will continue with more groups to see if these limited test results are confirmed.

Interesting that the White Label 2500 produced clean bore.  What powder were you using?

John: I'm almost always tinkering, otherwise it gets boring. I tried to shoot some of the tumble lubed bullets in a different .308x1.625( I have 2 of them), and the bullets wouldn't even fit in the throat. That's the way things work for me. Luckily I had other bullets with me and the day was not a loss. I credit the clean barrel with how little lube was used. Powder charge was 26 gr N135. I normally only lube the gas check gap. I used to lube all the grooves annd I also tried no lube, both were less accurate than lubing just the GC gap.

I will try tumbling again with proper bullets. The "bad" bulllets were squeezed too hard in the taper die. Easy fix.

fa38: Lee's thread can be found under tumle lubing. But only if you spell tumble with a "b".
