Are any of the forum members familar with this bullet mold. It is an ideal marked 308 277. It casts a .311 95 gr. plain base bullet. I could not find any info so far on it. I was wondering if it was a plinking round or for something else. I was thinking of trying it for a ruger .30 Carbine pistol?

      Thanks for any help, mike

That bullet and mold would have been for the old .32 S&W, .32 Automatic, and the .30 Luger as shown in old Ideal catalogs. Likely would make a neat lightweight plinker for .32-20 also.

I have one, but mine only casts .310" from WW+2% tin, so too small for any of the 32 revolvers I shoot. I use it exclusively in 7.63 Mauser and 7.62 X 25 Tokarov.

Save this to look up old Ideal and Lyman molds. It explains how to read the codes .

Are we not allowed to post live links on here ? I tried twice and it didn't work either time.

I had checked my old lyman cast bullet book without luck. I did check the site you gave me. They list that mold as a 197 gr. 30-06. Maybe the ideal and lyman mold numbers got mixed up somewhere along the way. Thanks, i printed that up. That is a handy reference.

I checked the site he listed and couldn't even find that mold number listed?

I've had this mold for many years. Just as RicinYakima states, this is the correct mold number. I use it in my Astra 900 7.65 Mauser. Also just as Ric's, mine also casts a .310" bullet.

There seems to be some minor confusion on the part of a couple of people. The mold is clearly marked 308227 but the text seems to have a typo listing it as a 308277. It is not unusual to find the same design on OLD Ideal or Lyman molds  listed as either 308 or 311.The 311227 lists in the OLD cast bullet manual as a design for the .32 Auto. There is a suggested loading for the 7.63 Mauser with 6.5 grains of Unique to work the action. That should be moving quite briskly...

Ufdah. I misread that mold number as 308 277 instead of 308 227. Dam dyslexia.
