Most of my cast bullets I use for hunting which run about 8 to 10 bhn. If I do my part they are pretty accurate. I also use gas checks. On to the question. If I use harder such as 15 or so sized at 358, can I expect close to the same accuracy? I the 44 Henry I had I found the softer alloy to be a lot more accurate. Maybe it was the shallow rifling.. just wondering what you more experience guy use.. thanks..john

Something you'll have to experiment with using your gun. The softest alloy that doesn't lead the bore is often the most accurate, but not always. However, I've found a range between about 10 -14 BHN makes little or no difference as to accuracy with many cast bullet rifle and handgun loads, but that's quite a generalization and there are a lot of changeable factors at play. I think you're on the right track.

I tend to go quite soft(10to 12)but some of my rifles need very hard(linotype).Luckily,it's not the majority of my rifles since Lino gets hard to come by.

Whatever it takes to get around 15 bhn for field use. I really don't have a preference for plinking and playing.
