They put out a press release a couple of months ago. They are getting limited supply nitrocellulose from China, and what they can get, they are using to make military contract powder. Wars going on, you know.

You might as well get used to not finding Alliant. Ever since Sandy Hook they have been the first powders to disappear and the last to come back in stock. Then they had that ridiculous price increase making them the highest price of any powder. I had to wean myself off Alliant and find others. As someone who started reloading shotgun as a kid in 1982, Alliant (Hercules) was the powder I always used. Red, Green, Blue Dot, Unique and the Reloder series 7,12,15,19, 22 were always on the bench. The one Alliant powder that I really don't want to do without is Reloder 7 as it works great for me with cast bullets in so many cartridges. I stocked up on Rl-7 back in Trump's 1st term when it finally came back in stock.

I purchased Bullseye by the keg. Pistol and revolver target loads burned most of it. Herco, Power Pistol and 2400 made big noise in magnum revolvers. Red Dot fueled my skeet and trap addiction. Reloader 7 was the best powder for 30.06 and 308 cast bullet loads and I tried a dozen powders to determine that.

All these are slowly being replaced by available powders. VihtaVuori was expensive, but it was AVAILABLE when nothing else was. Hodgdon has come back nicely.

Alliant may come back, but they may find the reloader market smaller. Some of us have moved on.

If the war in the Ukraine ends, it will be interesting to see if Alliant powders become more available, and at what prices.

I worked for Hercules from 1980 until they sold out to Alliant around 1994. Alliant like Hercules has government contracts to fill. These government contracts made Hercules a very rich corporation. Hercules no longer exists?

I believe I read that Federal bought Alliant.  Don't know if that has anything to do with the shortage.

:The Czechoslovak Group (CSG) owns Federal Cartridge and Alliant Powder. CSG acquired these brands when it purchased Vista Outdoor's sporting products business in 2024.

Vista Outdoor is a supergroup that owns many brands, including:

Alliant powder, CCI, Estate cartridge, Federal, HEVI shot, Remington, Speer, Bell, Beestinger, and Blackburn.

I had read the same thing. I have also read that someone in the gov. is worry about security of the country because a foreign company owns these .

Imagine the phrase "The sun never sets on the British Empire". This phrase would never have been uttered if England had her powder made in India, or China, or the Americas.

In our great country today, we have NO wartime production capabilities. NONE. Munitions are made elsewhere. Ships are made elsewhere. Aircraft are made elsewhere. Vehicles are made elsewhere. Steel is made elsewhere.

The Federal Defense Contracts Administration Service (DCAS) no longer exists. Inspections of production facilities, to maintain tool-up for war production, ceased 50 years ago. War with China? Better learn Chinese. Invade Greenland? With what? And to cap it all off, our brain trust has left the country. At the University where I now work, NONE of the scientific post-graduate courses have Americans in them. They do not qualify for the programs with their lack luster education. Americans can't qualify for the programs in Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, or any other advanced scientific programs. Pretty sad actually.

I'm planning on moving to NZ and shoot with those boys.
