I want to make a pitch to those members of the forum who use the forum but haven't sprung for a CBA membership yet.

The CBA depends entirely on volunteers so we can't put you into a bargain insurance policy, restore hair loss, or remove wrinkles but I believe that for most denizens of this forum a CBA membership can increase your enjoyment of cast bullet shooting.

Aside from providing this forum, the CBA offers additional advantages to cast bullet shooters.

  1. The major advantage for most CBA members is The Fouling Shot, (TFS) the official journal of the Association. This bi-monthly magazine is devoted to cast bullets and cast bullet shooting with very little space used for advertising. There are articles on every phase of cast bullet shooting from the basic principles involved through alloys and lubes, tools and equipment, casting and sizing techniques, hunting with cast bullets, shooting ancient, odd, or military rifles, and making sense of what you see on the target. Ed Harris has a regular feature Tales from the Black Creek Diary filled with solid reloading and other information. Top competitors tell how they do it and there are many cast bullet match reports including technical information about the bullets, rifles, and loads used.

The Fouling Shot is definitely not your usual gun magazine filled with the same old same old. If you are interested in cast bullets you will enjoy The Fouling Shot. If you would like to see what an issue looks like PM me with your email address and I will send a free sample copy by email.

  1. The CBA sponsors cast bullet matches where it is fun to get together with other cast bullet shooters, exchange ideas, make friends, and maybe enjoy a libation afterwards ”€œ and also shoot in a friendly competition. There are seven classes of firearms including two for off the shelf factory rifles so if you are already shooting cast bullets, the investment for giving it a try is very low.

  2. Another opportunity to try competition without a big investment is our military rifle match program where competitive rifles can still be bought for half the price of a new deer rifle. This program is only a few years old and has grown quickly to one with its own set of four official classes, regional matches, and a separate national match.

  3. If you don't live near a club that offers cast bullet matches but would like to try some informal competition there is the CBA postal match program where you can compete while shooting on your home range. The postal matches include not only the seven official classes plus the four military classes but many other special matches for little bore, mid bore, big bore, lever, pump, auto, carbine, offhand, and timed fire from practical handguns.

  4. In addition to your enjoyment of the Fouling Shot and/or competitive cast bullet shooting you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting cast bullet shooting and this forum.

Membership dues are as low as $17/year for email delivery of the Fouling Shot. See our website www.castbulletassoc.org for a complete schedule of rates. You can join directly from the website or print an application from the website and send it with your check to our membership director, Eunice Brimley 47 Pinion Ave Cimarron, NM 87714-9609 ([email protected])

When you join please write the words “from the forum” somewhere on the application so we can tell which of our recruiting efforts are helping. Thanks.

John,

I had no problem opening the printable membership application. You have to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer because it's a PDF file. There's a link and instructions to download it at the top of the page after you click on this:

To Join Or Renew By U.S. Mail Down Load Application Click Here.

Download it and you're ready to go.

I am already a member of CBA, so have not tried the membership application PDF.

However: a shout out of

:wavw2: "MANY THANKS!”

to you, John Alexander for taking up the mantle of Web Master.

Good shooting! RT

Thank you raytear for your kind words, but I'm afraid that they are undeserved.

I do not have the technical skills needed to be a competent webmaster. That title stuck under my name is sort of an inside joke between Jeff and me.

I do however have a member who is helping me as well as some help from Jeff so I think we may be able to muddle through until someone steps forward to take on the job.

In the meantime the more CBA members we can attract the more resources we have to provide services like this forum and the website with its storehouse of technical information as well as for keeping the quality of the Fouling Shot high for our members' enjoyment.

I'm new to the CBA. I mailed my application and check this morning.

How will I be notified when my membership has been processed?

You will most likely hear from the membership director.   That person is listed on the CBA Home Page.  Some time should be allowed for mail service of course.  If you have not heard within a reasonable time, just contact the membership director.

gpb, If you would eb interested in the postal matches, just send me your email address and I will send you an electronic copy of the 2013 Postal match guide.

I think it is one of the BEST ways for new members to have a great deal of fun with the CBA. In 2013 we added a timed fire fixed sight handgun match, and have retained the older 20 matches.

One thing that kept me from joining for a while was that I thought these guys were way above my level of expertise, and that I would not understand what I was reading. Well, the bench rest boys and girls are above my level, but I understand what they are talking about. There is no snobishness or anything like that. What I discovered was a bunch of kindred spirits who were struggling with the same issues I was. There is something for every level of shooter. I have learned an enormous amount that I may never get to use. But the joy of learning is an end in itself for me. You will not be sorry you joined, that is for sure.

Regardless of the discipline you're gonna have your front runners or hotdogs . It's part of life and competition .

Now I will say I find shooting cast in a way i want is quite refreshing !

Almost soothing to a person rather then high intensity that I've dealt with in competitive skeet or trap or whatever I tried in the past . Granted so far I've not compeeted in any form of CBA , however as you stated it does seem a good bit more uhm laid back for lack of a better word !

Don't be afraid to compete either. The postal matches, as well as the “in person” matches are a great deal of fun, and probably the most laid back bunch I have ever been around.

You don't have to shoot screamer groups to be competitive.

And....they border on being almost as much as a social gathering as blood and guts shooting!

As a match director, I can attest to the fact that many competitors would rather talk than shoot. It is a great place to meet “old timers” that have a great deal of knowledge but no computer. They have been CBA members for years but have never seen the forum.
