I.m looking to purchase a new scope and considering a Weaver T-36 as many people have recommended. It is offered with two different crosshair patterns.A 1/8 dot or fine crosshairs. What would be the advantage or disadvantage of either pattern and what style seems to be prefer among the CBA shooters

The choice between dot and fine crosshair is strictly user's preference. I've used both in benchrest competition and prefer the FCH in higher magnifications, the dot in lower (6X) magnification. The Weaver T is an excellent scope overall. -Ed

I like my T36. The FCH in the Weaver is easier to see than in the Leupold Target scope........Dan

I have a pair of these with fine crosshair and use on bench guns with excellent results.
Choice of reticule is a personal choice, but for group shooting, I prefer the crosshair.

I do have a Tasco scope on my T/C 30-30 that has target turrent and fine cross hairs and a dot.I also have a Weaver v-9-II on my 30-06 with fine crosshairs.I just don't know which one would be best for target use.At 36 power I dont think the dot would effect the target any.A question for the people that prefer the dot.Do you find that it is easier to center the crosshairs on the target?

When I first started shooting BR, I had this same question. My feeling is that those who want to hold off a1/4” because of a wind shift prefer the crosshair, but those that want to change the knob for 1/4” and see the same sight picture prefer the dot. That is just an observation. Ric

I just look at the dot and don't even see the crosshairs when I'm aiming.

I've never used a 36x Weaver or one of the old Leupold 36x BR scopes .
However my paper/groundhog scope thats been moved around on probably 40-50 rifles since I bought it back in the mid 90's is a Leupold Vari XIII 6.5-20x40mmAO Varmint . This thing has I believe an 1/8 MOA Target Dot and an elevation knob .
Anyway the dot on this thing fits the smallest circle in the 100 yard BR targets most folks use . And it's worked wonderfully for me working up loads etc .
Lately I've had the chance to handle and look thru a large number of Vortex 6.5-20x50mm with a 30mm tube scopes and for $450 they are very nice . Looked thru them with a number of different reticles .
Also had a couple NightForce 6-24x50mm with 30 mm tubes that were nice .
We had a Weaver T24 not to long ago that had plain CH reticle that I kinda wish I had purchased just for load work .

George Thatskind of what happens to me at times when I shoot my 06.After while they tend to dissappear, where as the dot stays in place.

While I don't have the scope that is the question of this thread, I have used various fine cross hairs and dots for over 50 years. At the end of that time, I still don't have a strong preference. They both work for me just fine.
