Compare the moulds to the auction sites, but only the moulds that are selling, not what the starting price is on an auction. From what I've seen, 2/3rds of the moulds that don't sell are over priced, the other 1/3 just simply not desirable for various reasons.

the 503 is a $250-$275 auction price mold($150 to a shooter) others are $25-$40

I am curiouse as to exactly what this is , as I am not familiar with H&G number terminology .
Is this a 44 cal mold for a 325 grain bullet and is it gas checked as well ?

6PT-S: Yes, it is a 325 grainer bullet, plain base. Many thanks for the info. What auction site are you referrng to?

I suspect the other gentleman was referring to Ebay and possibly Gunbroker . Although it's been my experience that Ebay usually brings a bit more then what the typical market rate happens to be at the time .

The prices of used molds are all over the place on any given day. The only thing certain, is they prices have been trending up for the past few years.

I've bought and sold a good many molds in the past 10 years .
But I keep thinking about the ability to get lead in the not to distant future . At one point I was up to about 125 molds for variouse lever actions . Now I'm down to just molds for the 44 MAG/444 and the 45-70 . After selling all the lever guns I owned except for a 45-70 and a herd of 444's I saw no reason to keep all the others .

There are times when I feel the same way. While I do have a modest stash of wheel weights I haven't cast in quite awhile. Have gone to jacketed bulk bullets instead. May in time sell all my casting equipment.
An area which is also scary is the buying up of many gun/ammo companies by an outfit called “Freedom Group". The Group is owned by a Wall Street Investment Company called “Cerberus Capital Management". The inamous “Georgre Soros” happens to own Cerberus! If you control the manufacturers you can decide many things. i.e., raise the prices to ridiculous levels or make the supply of guns/ammo scarce. All sorts of log jams.
As an aside just check places like Cabelas, Bass Pro or some of the better known gun shops for the price of ammo/bullets. Also, some cartridges used to sell in boxes of 20 but now are 25 and at the same or higher prices. Also, the cost of guns in general are very costly.

Also comments in an email from the NRA dispute the quoted information.
