Since we have a CD for Frank Marshalls articles, how about one for Ed Harris? I would be keenly interested in a compilation of Eds articles, as I'm sure many members would.

Honestly, I'd prefer a printed version, rather than a CD, but I'd take what I can get.

I might be talked into Frank Marshall's .

But rather then see his articles on a CD I'd be more entertained by him and that Brennan fellow putting on gloves and doing 5 rounds in the ring together :wavw2::wav3::wavw2::wav3::wavw2::wav3:

Woe, slow down there guys. The idea has come up before, but writng a book or even compiling articles takes a lot of work and time. I don't think the idea has been past that, just the idea. Maybe later in time those involved will be able to put the effort into the project....Dan

I have a collection of Ed's articles, if that might help.

I also have many of Ed's old articles from American Rifleman and Handloader Magazine. I go back and reread them from time to time. He also has some in the NRA Cast Bullet Book and the Supplement. Some articles (by others)in these two are now obsolete. I think this is why the NRA will not reprint them. I have thought about scanning them for my own use, but worry about breaking any copyright laws.

Any article he has written for TFS is already available on CD or reprints.

I think I will make a list of what I have that is not in the TFS. Dale53, what do you have?

RE: copyright laws

The general principle is that you can make one copy for personal use, but no more than that.  I ran into this when doing some academic work and needed to read and absorb info from journal and magazine articles. The journals/magazines could not leave the library and needed to be available for other classmates to use.

Hope that helps.

Good shooting! RT

I have been reading Ed Harris for decades, and keep his articles as reference. I have the Lee .30-155 mold designed by him, use Lee Liquid lube invented by Ed, have a gallon of Ed's Red, use Red Dot in my .30 calibers under cast bullets, and bought a S & W 625, and a Ruger .45 convertible on his recommendation. There's more, but you get the idea.

I will make up a list for you all of what I have, but it will be up to him whether the CBA will issue such a book or CD. Any profits would go to Ed or the CBA. There is one hell of a lot of stuff that he has written. These are not just cast bullet articles, but include articles on various cartridges.

It will take a while to compile my list. Anyone else want to compile a list?

Here is what I have that I can find not counting articles in TFS. A few years ago a bunch of my AR magazines got wet and had to be thrown out. I remember one article about Midway .22 55 FMJ seconds that I did not find. I also remember an article in Handloader about loading .223, 7.62x39mm, .308 and .30-06 in autoloading rifles. Now those would intrest me !

I assume they are all articles with both cast and jacketed ?

To be perfectly honest I would prefer they were jacketed bullet only articles for those cartridges as they're ones I load for and certainly do not use cast bullets in !

Yes, this is everything I could find without regard to cast or jacketed. Some of us still shoot those “other” bullets. The ones from Handloader were monthly articles on called “The Cartridge Board.” The article on the 5.56 NATO has reduced loads which have practical uses for small game etc. This “practical” side to Ed's articles is what has always attracted me, and caused me to go back to many of his articles as references.

It appears Ed wrote for the AR from the 1970 through the 1990's. Is that right Ed? I had saved almost every AR I had from when I joined the NRA in the 70's til now. Lately, I am afraid, the writing is not up to the old standards. Certainly, there is no one as good as Ed writing now in AR.

Mike Venturino and David Scovill had some good cast bullet articles back in those days in Handloader Magazine too.

Can anyone fill in the blanks here? I know I have had these other articles, but either cannot find them now, or had to throw them out due to damage.

Perhaps it is time to introduce myself. My name is Dale Lock, I live near Petersburg, IL, and grew up (?) near Farmington, IL. I farmed with my parents until all the money was gone in 1986. Then I got a job the only place that would take me, the United States Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration (FmHA). We made loans to low income rural residents and farmers with cash flow problems, which was almost everybody back then. Then we tried to collect that money back. Lots of sad stories there. In 1990, we moved to Peterburg, IL, when I became the FmHA Hearing Officer stationed in Illinois. I held hearings in some 20 states since this is a Federal position. In 1996, I became a Hearing Officer for the new National Appeals Division. I am not an attorney, all I have is a farm management degree (BS) from the University of Illinois. Originally, I was hired for my “practical” experience, and because of my reputation for doing what was right. Needless to say, this became a big liability after a while, and I retired July 31, 2011. I grew up (physically if not mentally) on the family farm with a Sears .22 bolt-action made by Marlin. I had a neighbor, Leon Suydam who had a house full of guns and he introduced me to the world of reloading, casting, handguns, high powered rifles and I have been a ruined man every since. Leon lives in Arizona now and shoots BP rifle Silhouette out there.

My competition experience consists of a few local silhouette competitions where I did no better than third. When I moved to Quincy, IL, in 1987, I was a range officer for three or four Masters Tournaments on the shotgun range, my least favorite firearm. Since moving to Petersburg, I have had little contact with other shooters outside of my family. I did fix the rifles for the American Legion posts in Petersburg, Greenview, and Mason City, for while, but worked myself out of a job. I own about 35 firearms, 18 or 19 centerfire rifles, a dozen or so handguns, and the rest are rimfires, and shotguns. I reload for about 20 calibers, and have almost 20 molds for pistol and rifles. I mostly shoot the .30-06's, and the .223's, plus my seven .45's, a .44, a .357, and a 9mm. My latest acquisition is a Remington VTR in .308. I have shot cast bullets mostly in pistols, until about five years ago, when I became interested in cast rifle bullets. I have been a CBA member since at least 2007. I work with computers a lot, especially video and still pictures for church, genealogy, and family. I use Sketchup to “build” models in 3D. I like to model trains, planes, and farm buildings in wood, paper and plastic. I do workworking, metal working, electrical work, plumbing, painting and all the other “honey do” jobs “she who must be obeyed", gives me. I have three children, two of whom live in Alexandria, VA near Ed Harris in Annandale. We are going out there on the 14th to see our new granddaughter.
I have a lot of training as a writer, my weakest subject in school. I do a lot of experimenting with guns and loads and would like to write some articles for TFS. Unfortunately, I suffer from three things, procrastination, bad memory and uh, I don't remember the other one. Oh, poor organizational skills. Anyway, I thought I better introduce myself, because for all you guys know, I could be Sarah Brady. Having worked for the Federal Government for 25 years, lets just say I have a very low opinion of government in general, and the Federal Government in particular. Anyone that thinks any government program is “free", and a good deal, should check himself into a government run mental hospital.

I have been reading Ed Harris's articles since the 70's, which is why I have .45 ACP revolvers, Lee liquid lube, the Lee 155 SP mold for the 7.62x39, a 200 grain .357 mold, Bullseye, Red Dot, reduced .30-06 loads, and Ed's Red. I have not succumbed to buying a .32 yet though. I have kept his articles for reference for almost 40 years. I think Ed's article are a treasure that should be passed down to new shooters. I have no motives other than that.

Dale,

Glad to get to know you a bit better. I was raised on a farm near Crawfordsville, Indiana so we have something in common in addition to cast bullets.

I hope you will follow through with your intention to submit articles for the Fouling Shot. Glenn is always looking for new material. I will look forward to read about your experiments with cast bullets.

BTW when I joined SASS for a year to see if their journal might be a place for CBA advertisements they require a handle and I chose Clod Hopper.
