I'd be intrested to hear of anyones use of VV powder #'s 120 , 130 and 133 .
My primary focus with these are in the 444 and 45-70 .

I use VV powders for match shooting, they are my choice for accuracy. I use N130 in my 30-06, 178gr Linotype cb clocks at 1,870fps with 26grs N130. With the MX4 at 214grs with 26grs I get 1,740fps.
In my 308 Win I tried N133 but did not have as good of accuracy. Sorry, didn't keep any records. I do use N135 though with the 214gr MX4 I use 30 to 30.2grs for 2,000+fps. VV powders burn complete and clean. I have found that N135 does not ignite easily during midwest winter temperatures, 30F and down, using cb velocity loads. Hope the '06 and 308 load data helps you cross over for the 44 and 45 calibers...........Dan

Most of the loading manuals show 120 , 130 and 133 used in loads for the 444 !
It is my intention to get one 444 across the ocean to shoot in the Philippines when I am there . Hence my intrest in VV powders . I've been talking with a filipino gentleman on another gun forum and he told me the only semi readibly available powders in PI are VV and some powder that Wolff imports from Russia .
I have no issue using VV powders but I wanted a head start shall we say !
I only plan on using the Ranch Dog 432-265 , 432-300 and 432-350 molds over there so thats pretty plain vanilla as far as trouble is concerned with load data .
Also wanna get a 243 WIN or 7mm-08 over there in hopefully a Remington Model 7 and shoot jacketed bullets so I'll need to look for a VV powder for that one as well .

If I'm not mistaken several of the load manuals I've read said 160 and 165 were the powders for the 243 .

Anyone used N160 in the 243 WIN ?
Thats looking like the best choice for a 243 WIN with a 100 grain jacketed bullet .

I'm still having problems finding N-120 or N-130 here in Virginia , as well as for our distributers and any of the large mail order houses !
And the ability to get N-130 in the Philippines doesn't sound to great either !

Not a cast bullet load but N133 is a magic powder in .223 with 52 Sierras..295inches at 100 yards,25.5 of the aforementioned 133.Great powder for small cases with jacketed bullets.I should think that it would do as well in cast loads using small capacity cartridges. Will

In Italy Vihtavuori pwders are available and very expensive.
N 110 is similar to 2400 and burns well at 1500 fps vith 400 grs in my Marlins.
N 120 gave me double crack ,it is burning badly in my opinion.at low pressures
While 135 and the more slow propellants are very good in bottleneck cartrideges and (horrible) jacketed bullets

I use 19.5 grains of N120 in my 38-55 with a 295gr plain base Hoch cast bullet, velocity is 1375fps. I also use N110 with a 225gr plain base cast bullet in my 32-40 for target work, the thing I like about the VVN powders is they burn cleanly & seem to produce very constitant velocity with the low pressure heavy cast bullet loads I use, neither powder seems to work as well with the lighter bullet weights.
Graf & Sons carries N120 & N130 powder

What would be the suggested VV powders for the 30br using bullets weighing 165 through 200 grains?
Attached Files
I used 28-29 grains of N-133 in my 30 PPC for 6-years of CBA match shooting. The bullet weighs between 170-175 grains and in an XP-100 w/15” bbl. the mv is about 1950-2050 fps. The case capacity of a 30 PPC is less than the 30 BR.
On page 78 of the new Lyman Cast Bullet handbook, there is a 30 BR load chart. One VV load is listed; 29.0 N-135 with a Lyman 311679 (200 gr.) at about 1900 fps.
N-110 works well in a .41 Mag.

I finally got my hands on some VV N-120 and tried it in both the 444's and the 45-70 with better then expected results .
Seems Vihtavouri makes a N-530 powder thats the same burn rate as the previouse N-130 . Also seems one of our distributers handles the V powders now . They seem to keep N-120 in stock and they have the N-530 as well .
So I should be getting a pound of the N-530 in the next week or so when our order arrives .

Mr. Ranch Dog sent me his PC generated load data for the VV N-120 , VV N-130 and VV N-530 in both the 444 and 45-70 for all the bullets he's made molds so far !

It isn't inexpensive here either !
Normal IMR/Hogdon etc powders sell for about $22-26 a pound . All V powders are $30+ per pound .
Hence the reason I hesitate to buy an 8 pound container of N-120 or possibly this new N-530 ;)
Actually they don't sell the N-120 in an 8 pounder anyway but I “think” they do with the N-530 .
