I have worked diligently for the last 5 years to get back into  Guns, reloading, casting. After 5 years I have achieved what I set out to do and am starting to get bored. I do not want or need any more guns or gun projects and after going to the gun show yesterday do not think I can afford anymore after looking at the prices they were charging.

What do you do when you reach this point? I know everyone has been here at least once so give me some ideas.

I think we all go through this cycle as our lives change, we get older, our circumstances change and or the political and social atmosphere changes.

I have no idea what shooting is like in Temecula. Do you have a range? An interest is competitive shooting? Varmints?

I started benchrest shooting when I could not shoot High Power because of surgeries. It has been fun for 15 years, but I am winding down from that. So have been playing with flintlocks, and all the gear, so have kept my interest up.

I read a lot of history and am now exploring the guns and life styles of the French and Indian War period.

You have to figure out what your interests are. There are guys that spend 51 weeks a year preparing for one week of elk hunting, you have to find your own passion.

Treadle sewing machines are great fun and machined wonderfully. No licenses, no 4473, no background checks, no cops, no haz-mats and no finger prints They are cheap, quiet, and easy to feed, with endless variety. And no one is Anti-Singer (or other brands) Johnm (They don't holster well)

Back away from it for a bit and get into photography or motorcycles or collecting bottles. There's a chance the gun bug will stay dormant for longer than you expect but it'll be there when something tickles your fancy and you'll already have everything you need to get going again. You'll feel guilty for a while but that passes. It's also a lot harder when like me you have no one close by that shares the interest to bounce things around with.

I ran myself ragged for years with shooting, driving God knows how many miles to matches, guns, and cast bullets and got burned out. Now I just play with them or go to a match when the mood strikes and like George said maybe something like plain base bullets will tickle your fancy, I'm hoping it does mine. This is a hobby not a job and when it gets to the point where it feels like a job like it did me it's time to back away and take a break.

Nothing to feel guilty or be ashamed of because it's your life and if you're not enjoying a part of it like you think you should be then don't do it. Took me a while to realize that but once I did everything fell into place.

In my own situation I'll mess with the cast loads in the 444's and 45-70's for awhile . Then if I get tired of messing with them , I'll go over to the Ruger #1's and shoot jacketed only as well as a couple bolt actions !

Also throw in some skeet/wobble trap/jap trap/sporting clays  with my old W.C. Scott 10, 12 and 20 as well as a nice old Parker GH 16 gauge . Oh did I mention all four of those shotguns are damascus ;)

And after that the only thing left for me to do is go to the Philippines and visit family and friends !

To be honest I would really really really LOVE to be in Cagayan de Oro City Philippines right now !

I just returned from there in early February of 2011 , but I'm ready to go back again ! Be kinda nice to turn 50 over there with my wife/fiancee as she turns 50 the same day I do B)

I don't know if it would be such a good idea celebrating both your wife's and fiancee's birthday together at the same time. What's the chances of all three of you having the same birthday? At least you won't have as much to remember but the gift thing has got to be a killer. New broom and dust pan for the wife and diamond bracelet for the fiancee.

Hmmmm I should probably quit calling her my “wife/fiancee” as it does sound as if I have a pair of them !

But they are one in the same ! After all what would be the odds of me finding TWO women with the exact same birth date as myself !

This woman is my finacee and I refer to her as my wife while in the Philippines as it's easier then explaining all the ime .>

When I ran out of new and interesting guns to buy and shoot, I bought one more, a CZ452 .22 rifle. I spend a lot of time at the club just plinking and chatting with the regulars. When my enthusiasm returns I will get back to casting bullets. These things seems to run in cycles.

Agree with George. Go to plainbase, experiment for low cost, light loads, low noise, stealth Bunny Guns. Challenging, but great fun. No muss, no fuss. Over the weekend I fooled with my H&R CR-45LC break-open single-shot in .45 Colt, firing 255-gr. FN soft lead Cowboy slugs and 6 grs. of Bullseye. Chronographs 1030 f.p.s. in the carbine, about 750 in the revolver, shoots 3-4 inches from the rifle with the open sights at 100 yards, and about the same from the revolver at 40 yards. Time of flight is long enough that the bang! fades away just as you hear the CLAANG~! of the slug whacking the gong. Very satisfying to just shoot 100 rounds offhand across the pond. When I get bored I try whacking the gong with the rifle I use the same load in my Colt New Service M1909.

I've owned a number of fine 22LR rifles over the years !

But I seem to loose intrest in them quicker then most other rifles !

I suppose it's the fact that all you can do is shoot what the factory made , to me it's way more intresting if I can mess with the loads etc . But then thats a personal thing as we have MANY folks in our gunclub that love to sit at the bench all day and shoot several different bolt action 22's with variouse ammo .

I've done the PB thing in several lever actions with no great problems .

However I am not a low velocity type guy so all my loads are getting to the point shall we say !

I'd maybe like to try the Schuetzen rifle thing and expect that may be a little more complicated , to say nothing of learning to shoot offhand well !

Oh yeah I have a nice old German Scheutzen in 8.15x46R , maybe I will try it later this summer ! Just need a good ring mold to get started !

Like bsdger45 says too many restrictions for you there in California! You're not bored man, you are oppressed!

I like a yearly trip or two and go on prairie dog trips. The open country being outside everyday for a week is great therapy. No pressure, no game to clean, just relax and enjoy burning a few hundred rounds of ammo................DanW

Shot my 444 Contender today for the first time since getting my scope back from Leupold !

I'm pretty comfortable shooting it at 50 yards , now I need to extend to 100 yards 25 yards at a time !

That 2x scope is not made for great groups at 100 yards !

Might have to keep my eyes open for a nice used Burris 5x or 7x EER for use on paper !

Handguns are a great alternative, especially in 22RF for the burned out caster or reloader  No reloading here, no recoil, and no excessive noise, just load and shoot! Scoped handguns are especially challenging when you're not used to such a configuration.

An old burned out match shooter at one of my clubs used to set up old steel to shoot at 200yds instead of paper bullseyes. Anything steel is game; old BBQ grills, washing machines, propane tanks. We had quite a recycled heap when he was done.

A friend of mine sets up an old fuel oil tank (steel buffalo) out in the field after the crops are out, about 2,200 yds and lobs in CBs in a variety of calibers. A spotter is needed to walk in the shots spotting the dust misses.

Imagination is the key to un-boredination :D  ...............DanW

Well, I've been casting bullets and shooting just about everything I could get my hands on since 1954 but I haven't gotten bored yet. When you feed just about everthing from .22 Hornet to .416 Rigby, there's no time for boredom. Still, I haven't done much this past year, because my shooting buddy moved out of state and most of the idiots I run into at the range scare me with their poor gun handling. The club member with the most seniority runs the range and that's been me most of the time. It's not much fun telling someone to stop doing an unsafe practice as some get downright nasty. Right now I have about a half dozen shooting projects reasy to try out but the %#@!!&*^%$ wind won't stop blowing. Every time I get ready to go we get a red flag warning for high winds and low humidity which raises the fire danger to a high level. Between idiots at the range and that blasted wind, I'm not sure when I'll be able to get out and shoot.:(

I might add I get a great deal of satisfaction from muzzle loaders , be it a original rifle from back in the mid 1800's up to and including the Savage 10ML-II with jacketed saboted bullets pushed with smokeless powder !

Also derive a fair amount of pleasure from messing with my bolt action rifled shotguns . Granted I only have these so I can hunt a couple places but they are still fun to mess with from time to time .

:coffee   Nice 444, Craig.

As Dan suggested, there isn't any reloading in a 22 lr Contender and you can make them what you want.  Here's mine in 22.
