He is behind to the tune of three month for prepaid orders via another site.At the same time offering them on ebay and delivering them much sooner. He is getting nasty with people who are questioning his delivery time and offers no anwser to when it may be delivered. His product seems sound, but he is leading people on.

advice- wait until he clears this up if you choose to order one.

Have a look at this post of mine. Something for you to be aware of.

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?p=1283658#post1283658

Jeff from New Zealand sent me this post above this a.m.

Jeff was instrumental in getting the 22 tools right. No room for slop at all. The post above has some rather interesting comments concerning the evolution of Lymans manufacturing methodology. .
I got started making tools simply because 41's were abandoned by the check makers. 41's are also the primary reason I am feeling like time to get out too. I have 41mag sample castings now that have shanks of (.380 only reported) .390 .393 .397 and the real problem .400.

Folks have indicated the have used 44's on 41's. The “standard” 44 is supposed to be .402, 45's .424/5 and now I'm hearing variations there too.

I make the 22 tool turn out a check with a .234 o.d. and let the swaging action of the sizing die do the rest. Shank length being an issue should extrusion start due to the smaller bullets short shank and metal that is too thick, send the check up to or over the base driving band, a no no.

I've had some pretty decent conversations over the past 5 years with “PatMarlin” on Castboolits . Always seemed decent enough guy to me , however....................... I wasn't trying to buy anything from him either !

Just my outlook on this !

Over the years I have made quite a number of things for myself . Reloaded shotgun shells , tied my own dry flies , reloaded rifle bullets , reloaded pistol bullets , cast rifle bullets . cast pistol bullets and lately made my own buckshot rounds for my old 2 7/8” 10 gauge .

There are two things hwever that I am not sure I wanna try . The first would be making my ownbird shot/ buck shot and the second would be making gas checks . Both to me seem like an awful awful lot of work for the end result .

I am all for folks that like to do either of these things themself , but for me these two aren't on my want to do list !

he is probably a good fella, just backed up and defensive because people are asking when they are going to get the stuff they paid for three months ago. Here is the really bad part-if they want a refund it will take 30 days! That is on money he has had for 90 days already! it too two months for mine and i like it but until the drama ends i wouldn't order another.

Yeah that does sound a bit suspect !

Out of curiosity how long does it take you to make say 500 checks with his device ?

I would assume he had expected maybe 10-20 folks to ask for these devices and perhaps he got a 100+ orders and it overwhelmed him

i can make 400 checks an hour casually.I shoot 1000-1200 of .30 cal cast rifle a month when there is enough light in the AM so i do it for economy..i make 200-300 while my pot is heating up rather than go mad and make 2000 at a sitting.

only shot it up to 2000- fps and it stays on the base of the bullets i have recovered. The checks look like they could be reused and don't seem to be beat up or anything unusual.

George So this should work for my 444 and 45-70 bullets since they all stay below 2500 FPS ?

I've been buying 44 and 45 cal Gator checks off a guy on Castboolits in North Carolina for I think about $24-26 @ 1000 . I shoot maybe 2-4 thousand 444's a years and possibly 500 of the 45-70 .

This thing actually may be something to look into down the road .

I think they would work dandy in a 44 and 45-70.You just need to verify GC shank dia. VS material thickness and sized diameter or they wont grip the base.

Hmmmmm I have about 30-35 different molds for the 444 and 4 for the 45-70 . GC shanks very on them a bit . However Hornady and Gator checks seem to do well on both calibers .

pats tool is wonderful,if he gets caught up i would recommend it.the freechex sometimes wont make them with material thick enough to grab the base n bigger calibers, but you have to check, that tool works well to in the FC-III model at almost 10o0 per hour i hear.
