Something I certainly did not deserve. A Carl Zeiss 85 T*FL 20x60 zoom angled eyepiece spotting scope. So what do you do with this thing? Maybe it will work for 500-meter BPCR silhouette spotting? Maybe my spotter got it for me because she'll be using the most!

I must have been very good.  The old man in red left me one of the 1876 Winchester copies in ported by Beretta in 50-95 caliber.

It looks like dies, brass and a new mold are in my future.

My wife saved some money to buy me an Idaho deer tag and license this year. She gave it to me and arranged a trip with her family who lives there. They got swine flu (the real thing) just before a cow elk hunt and I could not go for deer season.

She took my money from me, rat holed it again. I figured she spent it on household bills, etc. She hoarded it until I went Dove and Coyote hunting on the Colorado River Indian Tribes res in Arizona, but I was able to take my aging father and uncle.

Didn't do very well due to late season trip(and shotgun prowess) but had a great four days, got to test my suburban 4wd in foot deep plus mud bog and survived, called in a triple threat:

Coyote, my dad was asleep at the wheel. The only one called in on 20+ stands. Govt hunters depleted the species lately for 10K sheep there.

Mountain Lion, I was 20 yds from it and never saw it. It could have easily eaten me, I was on my back. Dad scared it off. Uncle never saw it. Protected animal.

Bobcat, last stand of the trip, on the way off the res. I got to spend 4 minutes watching it at about 25 yds, no one else saw it. They are protected there. Had it been legal, it would have a pelt in my office today. A high note to end on, just before the mud bog incident!

I got a bag of tangerines from my wife in a gift bag today, plus a Casio watch with altimiter, barometer and compass. I use all three often for various business things. Fruit and a watch today, a great trip to Arizona two weeks ago.

Merry Christmas to everyone.

Jesus is still the reason for the season.

My dad had never predator hunted before (neither had the older uncle). Fact is, he knows little about ANY predators. He is also a rocket scientist in his own regard as he has read just about every Pop Sci magazine since the early 80's. So I can't tell him ANYTHING that I have learned about predators or hunting them as just like in the movies, he will repeat what I tell him an hour later as though he had experienced it personally yeeeeeears Agooooo when he was employed as a “professional” predator hunter. Yep, thats dad!

I am no great predator hunter, I only know what I have read about and see in dvd's and learned in the field. Thats more than going to the pet store and getting a bishon friese (however it's spelled)though.

So as he expressed his infinite wisdom for hours and hours regarding coyotes, he then for all intents and purposes dropped trou on the dog that he could have killed with a pocket knife it was so close to him. He probably could have pet the dog for ten minutes as well it hung around so long. He was not disturbed by the “oversight” and was further compelled to explain what the dog was thinking, where it went after it ran away laughing at him, what it would eat that night and where it preferred to den this month. Yep thats my dad.

I love my dad dearly but after 36 hours of solar system explanations and general irrelevant trivia, both I and uncle were just about done. Yep, thats my dad.

If the “spotter” would just proliferate the spotting info to the “shooters” with their pants up, intent on hunting and ready to shoot, might be a pretty good team. Then again, an ambien tablet might do well for the travel time to and fro, keeping trivia bottled up tightly and sanity nearby. Yep, thats my dad!

I did however run to my favorite gunshop to pay a note there on Christmas eve day. I picked up a Hornady Pro Jector press. Used the GF's $ she gave me for Christmas. Came with a powder measure and a couple of shell plates. Need a #2 and #7 shell plate now. jeff

Santa meant to get me a CZ Bobwhite side by side 20 gauge. It showed up on Saturday....just after the local gun store opened up.

Double triggers and extractors so I don't have to chase empties.
