So I have a 586 I purchased last year so far I've done an action job, muzzle crown, forcing cone and last but not least my throats were small @.3565 so I ordered a .0358 reamer but only reamed to 0.357 my grooves are 0.357 and my cast bullets .0358 and I can not push them thru by hand I sent the reamer back to Manson along with some of my 148 Zero hbwc's for them to get correct reamer.

I put the gun in a rest today and it shot about 2-1/2" @50 yds with a load of 2.7 wst with a roll crimp should I call it a day or ream to .0358 ?

Thanks !

That would be a tough call for me.

I've run across the same with many S&W .38/.357 revolvers. Like you, I've found using a slightly oversize cast bullet works well in providing good accuracy. I've yet to find any disadvantage after doing this for a long time.

What do you want for 50 yd accuracy?

Muzzlestuffer you certain did your homework on tuning that revolver, but there is one thing you didn't mention. I may have a choke restriction in the rear part of the barrel screwing into the frame. This is quite common and it can affect accuracy, but it contributes more to leading up your bore. I assume with your knowledge of working on your revolvers action that you know how to check see if there is a bore restriction in that area.

If it repeats groups like that at 50 yards I couldn't agree more with leaving well enough alone. A downside of the internet is there's so much bull being thrown around people get expectations way beyond the reality of the situation. You can always take metal out but its a damned sight harder to put it back.

Agree with Larry. Check for thread choke and lap that out if an issue. Handloads giving 2-1/2" from a revolver at 50 yards is very good if 6-shot groups. Good factory wadcutter firing 10-shot groups from a solid test barrel in return to battery rest should do that. As will also a scoped Contender pistol fired off sandbags by a Master gunner.

If I get 4” hand held off a bench with a revolver and open sights I am really ready to brag about it.

Give credit where credit is due Ed. Larry didn't say anything about that choke, he said don't fix what isn't broke. I'm the one that posted about the choke. Read the whole thread.

If I had a revolver and load which shot 2 1/2 inches at 50 yards I would be done! I would load 1000 rounds and go shooting.
What if your "correct size" reamed cylinder throats give you 4 inch groups? What are you going to do but cry?

The gun is telling you something.
