thanksSawdust does create a moderate barrier to atmospheric Oxygen. However, you still have to recombine the metals other than lead since they tend to migrate to the top of the melt due to the difference in densities. I use wax (without sawdust) on a regular basis which eliminates the debri on the surface of the melt. A regular fluxing with wax will keep the alloy in a homogenous state and clean.I trust that this information will help you.Matt

Just about anything containing carbon will work as a fluxing agent, and I've probably tried them all. I do my casting indoors and when I can't get good ventilation I use Marvelux or the Frankford Arsenal equivalent. Both of these fluxes are smokeless and do a good job, but I don't know if they are available in France.

hello and thanks for yours answers

i have no try for founding marvellux and i don't think that is can send

to international as hazardous material.

in 80 a french firm “S.I.B"now out of business made a similar product

is color was pink and when it was melt with the alloy is color turn to green

i see no improvement to traditional fluxing with wax ,like i cast outdoor

the odor and smoke is not important for me i will continue with candle wax

have a nice day

They sell it in the grocery stores here in the states and Canada, not sure of where in France. It's in the Laundry isle at the local stores here in BFE, Ohio.

Sprinkle a little on the surface, scoop the crud off and and start casting.

For an excellent fluxing agent just use some olive oil. Thats right, the same stuff used for cooking.

Just a little works fine and when it smokes it'll smells relitively good compared with the horrible commercial mixes the casters have recommended above.

Use an oil squirt-can to dispence it on top of your melted alloy. Stir, scrape off the junk and you're ready to go.
