Those of you who have been following my BR threads are probably aware that I've been mostly using WC844 (seems to be the same as H335) just because I had a couple of jugs on the shelf, but it's not the greatest powder for the BR family.

Well, the money tree has finally blossomed enough to let me order a few jugs of powder.     Some of you have already made powder suggestions, which I'll include in the list below.   Am I leaving anything out, bearing in mind this is for 2700+fps loads?

Obviously I'd like to try every powder on the market but my budget doesn't work that way.    What are the must-have powders for the BR family?

Here's the list with my thoughts for each:

H322 -- I believe two CBA members used H322 to win national matches at 2700+fps, so it's a must-have except ....

IMR8208 -- is supposedly an “improved” version of H322.     If I get IMR8208, do I still need to get H322, too, or can IMR8208 do anything that H322 will do?

N133 -- someone suggested it.   I have no experience with it.

LT30 -- Paul Pollard recently posted a promising target using LT30 in his 6PPC.   I've heard it burns like 4198, except better?

LT32 -- popular with the 6PPC crowd.

RL10 -- I already have one jug and might order a 2nd because it seems to work well in the BR's.

4198 -- I'm not a big fan because it meters poorly.

You can easily compare H322 to IMR8208 or any of those others in 10 rounds. Use loads a safe few percent below MAXIMUM over a chronograph and compare ES of velocity. the lowest number wins.

Well, yes, but you have to buy them first.  :D      My shopping cart at Powder Valley is already past $850 and that doesn't include H322.  :(

"4198 -- I'm not a big fan because it meters poorly."

Actually, long stick extruded powders like 4198 is where the Lee Perfect measure shines and does best.

mt, I shot a lot of AA2015 in the 7BR and am primarily using 3031 in the 30Bellm wth cast, but will be giving 4198 a try as so much is made of it in the 30BR over at 6mmbr.com.

I've http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?88946-Lt-32&p=728453#post728453>heard that AA2015 is simply a slightly slower lot of LT32?    Hence I deliberately left it off my list since I'm planning on getting LT32.

I used 4198 to shoot my first perfect IMHSA score in a 7TCU many eons ago, so I don't doubt that it is accurate.   But for several years now I've been trying to switch most of my loads over to the modern “extreme"-type powders that are less sensitive to temperature and that meter well.

I worked up that 4198 7TCU load in the winter.   At that time It was max but safe.    Come summer it it was spitting brass in my face.   Oops!  :D  :D  :D

Another one you may want to put some thought to is Alliant Power Pro 300MP. I'm not familiar with that one. :D    A magnum handgun powder, right?

These BR cartridges have a different “personality” than anything I've used before.     I haven't figured them out yet other than to say that RL10 seems to work well in them.

Powder porn.

The VV is N133.   I couldn't work up enthusiasm for buying a jug of 4198, but I found a dusty 80's-vintage can on the back of my shelf.
