Perry PS  is it worth it over paraffin ??   Are you a Roman Catholic? We RCs use only pure beeswax candles in the church, and the short stubs can be had for a small donation. I've begged candle stubs from the women that take care of RC churches since 1960. And, the lube works especially well, since it's holy. Protestants, Mormons, Jews; I don't know if they use beeswax. Good luck; joe b.

Try your local farmers market. That is where I buy my beeswax. The people selling honey usually have it or can tell you where to get it.

JP, Other than they are both solids, they have nothing in common. Beeswax has about 250 organic chemicals and paraffin has maybe 3. Never having used blessed beeswax, we cheap Scot-Irish Presbyterians buy our candles at the florists, I can tell you that you want “yellow” and not “raw” beeswax. That just means it has been through a steam process, made liquid, and all the dead bee parts and babies removed. Literally hundreds of places sell it on the internet, and shipping will cost you more than two pounds. Paraffin is not a particularly good bullet lube, but is cheap and used to hold oils and other liquids in cheap commercial lubes. HTH Ric

I get beeswax at Walmart in the craft section with the candle making stuff. Simple and effective lube is 1 part ATF to 4 parts of beeswax by melted liquid volume.

Equal parts Goya Manteca (refined salt-free lard used in Mexican cooking) and beeswax is a good blackpowder lube, known around here as Confederate Army Lube.

These responses explain poor scores. Many of you are going to hXll. PURE blessed beeswax, from RC bees, ensures going to heaven. And small groups. Although mutton tallow is also a successful ingredient, as is yak butter. Look at the Nepalese scores!

Joe, Are you referring to scores shot by Nepaloese, or shot with Nepalese rifles? Brodie

All I know is that the British East India Company went to beeswax after about 25,000 were killed in the Sepoy Munity. No cow, no pig, no sheep fats were used; insects were ok to put in your mouth.

Perry, ATF is automatic transmission fluid Toilet rings are no longer made from beeswax.  If you can find some that are: buy them. To get the correct spelling for a word underlined with a wavy read line; Put the cursor on the word and right click.  A couple three choices should come up. With my hearing I make a lot of spelling mistakes.  For my 30th birthday my graduate advisor gave me Dictionary. Brodie

Sorry for jumping the gun Ed.

Just so you know, the Pope and I are watching you closely. All of you. And the sheep. They're watching too. The bees are particularly interested. The parrafin producers are relieved.

Church blessed wax can only be used for Holy targets.

I use a double boiler to make my lube to keep from scorching or burning it.  I first melt the beekeeper beeswax and run it thru and old t-shirt held over a pot.  It goes thru the t-shirt like water and any solids are caught by the t-shit.  It smells sweet from the honey unlike refined beeswax, but does not seem to hurt the lube that I make.

Perry PS  is it worth it over paraffin ??   How about a serious answer. Make and use Darr lube.

Go to the canning section, canning peaches and pickles-mason jars kind of canning. Buy 1 pound of parrafin wax. It comes in 4 pieces, quarter pound per piece. In a box like a butter box.

Buy a jar of Vaseline-the name brand. Comes in 12 ounce jars-get a 12 ounce jar.

Get a clean pan or can, ,metal. Salvation army.

Put 3 pieces of parrafin and the 12 ounces of Vaseline in the pan/can.

Put a frying pan on the stove, an inch of water in the frying pan, and put the pan/can in the frying pan.

Turn the stove on low, and WAIT-NOT on high.

The parrafin and Vaseline will melt, stir it up if you wish.

Barry Darr included a spoon of RCBS case lube, I've never needed it. You can put in a bit of Marvel Mystery Oil to make it kind pink, or a crayon to give it color-otherwise it's white.

A pound and a half of lube will last 1.36 zillion bullets, and it's as  good or better than ANY other lube up to ~ 1600 fps. No beeswax, no tricks, and it works.

A lot of those is the “It wasn't invented here syndrome. That's why I make my own out of secret ingredients revealed here for the 1st or is it the 10th time.

½ lb. Beeswax, ¼ lb. soywax, 3 oz. lanoline, 3 oz. peanut oil, 3 oz. xlox from LsStuff, and one drop of blue candle die to give it the eventual light green color. If you want if stiffer add more beeswax. I used to put in some bear fat until my wife cleaned out the freezer and I think mistakenly through it out.

It works in my Schuetzen rifles with plain base bullets and in my military rifles with gas check bullets. Your hands will get a bit black from handling the fired cases.

I use Emmert. 60% beeswax, 30% non-salted white Crisco, and 10% olive oil (from the extra virgins). Smells great, tastes great, and best of all a great moustache wax.
