Got a good “blow” coming in. Starting to come down pretty heavy. Calling for 3” tonight, 8” -12” tomorrow & 8” - 12” on Sunday. Calling for high winds tomorrow. Got plenty of food & firewood. Let mother nature have at it!!

I don't envy you, but I do love the white stuff. It can be a pain, but there is just something about it that draws me. My wife knows that if she had not got me when she did I would be in Alaska.

Pat, oh come on! I have lived in the middle of the Lake Effect drop zone from the Great Lakes all my life. When it gets bad I celebrate by putting snow and Country Time Lemonade Mix in a soup bowl and making snow cones.

You guys can KEEP your snow! I remember as a kid having to hump thru it, up to my waist, to get to school, in White Plains, N.Y. (There flat WERE no school buses, back then, and they didn't close the schools so quickly, either!) No, guys, I'd much rather sit here in my backyard, in Florida, and watch my Mangos, Avocados, citrus, bananas and pineapples grow, while you're digging out! The closest I want to get to snow and ice is the frost in my freezer! Cheers, Fred (Honcho)

Gary,      I actually enjoy watching it come down. This kind of weather was “standard fare” when I was a kid in northern PA. We looked forward to the possibility of not having to go to school. But . . . we would usually wind up helping the school bus driver chain up. I remember snow being piled up 14' high along our dirt road.       But weather like this can be devastating in the D.C./Metro area. Thousands of cars on the D.C./Baltimore beltway coupled with 1” of snow on the road is a recipe for disaster. Imagine the L.A. Freeway with a layer of snow in rush hour.      I'm an old country boy & I can drive in this stuff so it's not me I'm worried about. My older brother lived in Rochester for quite a few years then one day he said “Screw this” & moved to the Florida Keys. He retired there . . . smart man! LOL! My sister still lives up in Elmira, N.Y. & asked me why I didn't move back up in the area. I asked her if she was “Aware of her environment"?      Back in '76 I moved 230 miles south to Frederick, MD. The winters weren't so hard & the garden growing season a lot longer. You can keep the “Lake Effect” snow Gary. Pat

If it were me, I'd take full advantage of the situation. I'd have a bunch of loads worked up and mark an area in the snow banks. Shoot the loads and then wait till the thaw to see how the bullets perform. I've heard snow is great for doing this sort of thing.

More rain here. Came home yesterday to a 2 foot dia. Oak down across the drive, walked home in the rain. I fired up the tractor about 9 this morning. Two of the neighbors showed up and we spent more time talking after than we did clearing the road.

The neighbor whose property the tree fell on was happy I showed up with the tractor and indicated the wood was mine if I wanted, so that's to the good.

It's back to rain tonight. I'm down to #15 of alloy blended but maybe I'll fire up the pot and cast a few.

I tend to hibernate at below 50 degrees (F).  Here on the central gulf coast, the hummingbird migrations are both “events". Down-right embarrassing to realize that they have more sense than the average human does. And - Yeah! This time every year I regret not being more aggressive and getting rich enough to live in Aruba every year between Labor Day and Easter.  Geez! Those are the months when most of the license plates around here are from the Northern tier of states, and those folks in shorts and T shirts look at me oddly because I'm in insulated coveralls over so many “layers” I'm barely mobile, my nose is running , and my teeth are chattering so badly I can barely speak.   Can't even melt lead - because the heater has to be “vented” (= complete and criminal waste of BTU's of heat.) “Global Warming"? BRING IT ON!

I feel for you folks. When you are not used to that much snow and not prepared to deal with it, it makes problems where there is a high population density. Good luck to you all! Now start digging. Ric

I moved down from the central Idaho snow belt twenty years ago. SW Idaho is bright and sunny today and should hit fifty degrees. Think I'll head out to the range. Retirement is great. Enjoy your day. Gp

I wish there was some way we could take a big hunk of that snow you folks have and send it down here to Flagstaff AZ.  They promised us a big snow year.  “One of the heaviest El NIno winters on record."  They said.  So far we have had two days of moderate snow fall.  We can really use the water.  Oh Well; all we can do is talk about the weather, because no body can do anything abut it but live with it. When I checked Sun. morning the snow on the back deck was 38".  I can't even open my back door as the snow is right up against it so I measured out a bedroom window.  Like a true idiot the snow shovel is on the right of the back door and the damn screen door opens from the left side.  I have to be a bit more prepared for crap like this.

The road past my house is still unplowed.  My @^$(% snow blower doesn't run and I checked it 2 months ago.  The garage where I do my casting is a complete mess (spent more time messing than cleaning).  I figure I won't be able to get out until Wed. or Thur. as the plows do the main roads first and here in Shannondale there are hundreds of side roads some still gravel.  One possibly good thing on some of the gravel roads is maybe when the snow packs the ride won't be so bumpy for a couple of days.  The worst thing is when this   %&@# melts some of the upper roads will be covering the lower ones.

I guess this really isn't as bad as a winter when I lived south of Louisville.  It iced and snowed  in early Jan. and the kids didn't go back to school until almost Feb.

Oh well back to bed with a good audio book to comfort me.

I worked in DC in winter of 60-61 and the winter before they had had a 4” snow that completely shut things down and people were still complaining about the hardships they had suffered.

One day we had about an inch of snow that melted in a couple of hours and the town was filled with cars clanking around with chains on bare pavements.

I just drove back from Hagerstown. Somewhere around 36” in my GF's driveway off the Sharpsburg Pike (up to my belt buckle and I'm 6'). Made a half-assed attempt to shovel out on Sunday, put it off 'til yesterday. (We preferred being snowed in :) - I didn't even care that I couldn't do any handloading during the blizzard!)
