If you can find a ball mold .002- .004” bigger than groove diameter you will have a winner. See my articles in June 2005 to Jan. 2006 Fouling Shots.

I use the Lee 1oz . The Lee recommended load with Accurate #5 easily surpasses factory load velocities. Just don't substitute components. If you don't have the Lee loads from the instructions:
Use the listed components exactly and the load is fine for smooth bore, rifled bore and smooth bore with rifled choke tube. The Lee slug loads are sabot loads with the slug in a specific shot cup wad and a standard star crimp. It is a good idea to identify the loads with the word SLUG in permanent marker on the hull as the loads look like a standard shot load with a standard crimp. Either your specific shotgun will like the load or not. It is an investment that was worth the try for me.
I have had best results with an AA direct substitute 7/8 oz shotcup wad:
That wad is perfect with the lee slug and recommended charges for a column length that star crimps well and needs no spacer under the slug to get the right height for crimping. I use 38 gr Accurate #5, AA hulls. My Winchester Shadow 1200 pump with Carlson's rifled choke tube consistently groups 2"@50 yards with this load. My grandsons Mossberg 500 with rifled barrel does as well with the same load.
The same AA hulls and wad works great with the Lee .690 round ball and 16 gr H. Titegroup. This round ball load kicks harder than the slug load I use, but is slightly more accurate for my Winchester.. Take a good look at your spent wads at the range! If your wads are badly chewed up and missing petals, you will have poor accuracy because you have a poor fit for your shotgun.
WARNING: Component substitutions with the Lee loads are dangerous, don't go there!
I bought the wads and bulk once fired AA hulls to start.
Note also that Lee recommends pure soft lead. Harder alloys shoot less accurately and create higher pressures.
