When I look through a telescope should I be looking through long range glasses or reading glasses to focus the scope correctly?joe b.

if your eyepiece ( rear lens thingie ) has enough travel-adjustment, you could get a clear picture with either ... however if you use your long distance lenses, then you can look up and see your downrange target clearly ... might be safer as well as handier ... so i would suggest using your long-range eyeglasses .

hope this helps ...

Joe, when you use a scope, you don't look thru it, you look into it, about a distance of (guessing) 20 inches, more or less.  So, whatever visual aid you use to read with, or to put into proper focus at that distance, is the best thing to use.  My far vision is better than 20/20 at a distance with my shooting eye, but I use glasses to read, so I focus my scope(s) when peering into them with my left eye, and my corrective lenses.  I've tried both ways, and this is the best.  (At least, for me.) Bill

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is. My fate is not entirely in Gods hands, if I have a weapon in mine.

When I am hunting with a scope sighted rifle I usually leave my glasses off in a case in my pack.  I don't like to use binoculars or a spotting scope with them for fear of scratching a lens, and I see just fine at distance without them through optics.  When I shoot at the range, or check loads the glasses stay on, and I look through the top or distance part of the lens.  I guess it just boils down to what works best for you.  Brodie

I am nearsighted. The glasses I use that focus at 4 to 5 feet OR the ones that focus at 1-1/2 to 2 feet work best. (Less effort to bring the image into focus by my eye muscles, therefore likely to be more accurate. In my humble but accurate opinion.)
