My latest TFS has arrived, an event I always look forward to. As usual the cover is a great picture, this time by Ed Harris. I was wondering if someone with the skills could post the cover picture here? Then we could all enjoy it and non-members can see what they're missing. Make it a regular thing? One look at a TFS cover and any real cast bullet shooter is gonna want a subscription.

Let's see how this works, the original pic without the cover printing.

If you are a Garand shooter, it is so sad, all empty. If a reloader, heaven, a new project!

Thanks Ed. More pictures is always good. Anybody else think posting the TFS covers here is a good idea? People could see the cover stories, maybe get motivated. I treasure my CMP LC69 stash like my ace in the hole. The HXP is gravy.

Good gun porn, oh, I mean eye candy! I remember getting cans of what I think was Korean M2 Ball for real cheap at gun shows way back when. They were like large SPAM cans. Still using the clips.

I think you had a heckuva good idea, tturner. Anything we can do to induce shooters to join CBA is a move in the right direction.

Great Idea! “Gun Porn"? Nah! Dillon's “Blue Press” owns that niche (Fine machinery sending the wrong message to the wrong sub-culture,) Reinforces the anti-gun nonsense that shooting is a surrogate for sex and guns themselves are phallic symbols. Seems to keep Dillon's bottom line in the black, and probably sells more AR's, but I hope the CBA never goes there.

I agree with Mustafa, and also with Tim. I like the cover art on the forum. Haven't gotten my TFS yet.

Well we did think of that and I scouted around at the last nationals for a model but none of our good looking shooters were willing to pose in a bikni or a dress slit up to the waist. They are a shy bunch but maybe it is just as well.
Putting TFS covers on the forum with the table of contents seems like an excellent idea. I will see if we can't do that. Thanks for a great suggestion Tim.
I have had the offer of a free copy of TFS on the forum for a couple of years and it has gotten us a few paying members. We have lots of non CBA members that visit the forum so I was surprised at how few had the curiosity and gumption to PM me as say they had enough interest to take a look at a free CB magazine. But then, I am often surprised by what people do and don't do.
Lee Precision has generously agreed to put a “Join the CBA” card in every mold box they ship. This is an impressive display of helping the sport that they serve -- far different from RCBS who won't give a dime for match prizes. The card offers a first year membership for $5 off the usual dues if the card is sent in with the membership application. Lee is now on the second batch of 50,000 cards. This effort has also gotten us a fair number of new members although fewer that my optimistic hopes. However, it has been enough that the CBA Board recently agreed that I should get the second batch of cards printed and sent to Lee. We anticipate that this is gong to give us a good return on our investment in the long run.
I think one reason for the low rate of response (at least from my rosy expectations) to both these efforts is that a lot of folks think they can get the same information for free on internet forums. They are wrong of course as CBA members know. We also have some shooters that already know everything there is to know about CB shooting. They are also wrong and if they came to matches with their ideas and their rifles they would find out how wrong.
For at least the last couple of years we have had at least one new article by Ed Harris and one written by Frank Marshal in almost every issue. Yes, Frank is no longer with us but he left a lot of unpublished articles in his notebooks. The overwhelming majority of articles are on CB topics that have little to do with competitive shooting. But by reading the match reports you can also get the dope on what loads and equipment people are using who really are shooting those small groups (in front of witnesses) that are claimed so often by internet experts.

To add to Tim's suggestion thanks to a suggestion by Rus Arnold, one of our Canadian members, to also add the table of contents. Here is the table of contents for the Fouling Shot behind the cover picture above.
Free copies of recent Fouling Shots will be sent to anybody that PMs me their email address.

John John, Do members have access to past issues of The Fouling Shot? To me that would be the carrot. I couldn't tell from the membership page. But then my wife is always amazed at what I don't find when it's right in front of my face.

paperer,
We have a CD for sale that has TFS issues from 1992 to 2007 for $29.95. That works out to about $.30 per issue and is a great reference for CB shooters.
We hope to soon have the issues from the start in 1976 to 1992 available for sale as well as a CD of the issues from 2007 to the present.
We also sell the second edition of Joe's book “Cast Bullets for Beginner and Expert either on CD or in print for $15 and $30. In my opinion that has more bang for the buck than any cast bullet book i know of and I think I have them all.

Papertri's question and my answer above got me back into this thread. turner53 started things by suggesting that we post each cover of the Fouling Shot as it comes out. Ed obliged by posting the picture.
Rus Arnold added that posting the table of contents for each new issue would also be a good idea. I posted the table of contents for FS #234 (May?June.) There was a couple of comments on Ed's pictures and none about the index. Then the thread became inactive.
In spite of the lack of any visible interest I will post the index to FS #235 and maybe Ed could post the great cover photo and try again.

Joe B's book, Cast Bullets for Beginner and Expert is the best reference book I own. I most likely don't have as many books as John A. but believe me a have a few. Thanks Joe, it's answered just about any cast bullet question I've ever had. Spend a few dollars, support the CBA and have the answer you need to make your cast loads what they should be. Gp

I think including the index idea is a good one. It's valuable and interesting info, might as well put it out there.

Tim, Thanks for the encouragement. I also thought it might be a good idea but I haven't seen any indication that anybody is interested and no request for free FS from non members much less applications for membership coming in from the non CBA members who frequent this forum. It apparently is like a lot of the “good” ideas that i have had and then put time and energy into without seeing any new members. I have had a few successes as well but some things that seem like they would interest the apathetic, or the folks who think that now that we have the Internet they should get everything free, just don't seem to work.
I do appreciate you making suggestion for the benefit of the CBA and look forward to more in the future but I haven't been encouraged by the response to this one.
If some other CBA members wants to post the table of contents that would be a nice contribution to the association and maybe it would eventually result in some shown interest. John
