Barrel is marked H.S. 8-44. (High Standard I assume) The barrel is new and has the ordinance proof marks. My question is it has a round sleeve threaded on the breach end. On the top side of this device it has a flat with what appears to be a quick mounting system of some type. I would appreciate any information I can get Thanks in advance. Escalante.

Escalante,
Your description is of a standard model 1903 replacement barrel. The rear piece is the “fixed rear sight base” and the ladder sight goes over the post and rotates onto the flat. This base is double pined to the barrel and not threaded.

yours is probably a 4 groove barrel. Don't know how willing I'd be to trade a new 4 groove for a 2 groove that was rifled in about 2 minutes.

The 2 groove barrels are great with cast bullets.
Usually its easier to find rifles with two grooved barreled in new conditions ,because people always choose the multiple grooved barrels .
