This wknd past i got what is needed for a pound cast. I drilled a 1 1/2 inch hole in a piece of 3/4” square red oak, ladle poured 2 slugs which came out nearly smooth. Then ladle poured the case to bottom of the neck. With a propane torch i heated the pour and slid the slug into the neck. I taped the 24” mild steel rod every 8"s, chambered the case/cast and slid the rod with a g/c into the bore and with a 4 lb. mallet, tapped 8 or 9 times and i was done. I actually could have tapped less as i bent the rod slightly, that was the indicator that i could stop, the cast was done. The bolt opened easily and i tapped the rod lightly dropping the case/slug out. Total cost $2 and 1/2 hour. Next is to send it off to probably LBT and have a mould made. Very revealing the case to rifling relationship, i now know exactly how far to seat bullets before engaging the rifling. Maybe other info i dont know about.

Don't need that heavy of a hammer and quit tapping when the rod starts to bounce.

also you can see how much you need to trim brass necks . i keep the cases with slug in it for future reference ... in an ” organizer ” drawer set, labeled.
and yeah, i try for 100 light taps, but stop when ” thud ” turns to ” tink ” ..
