This is a cast bullet forum but some of us go boath ways. Have any of you guys had any experiance with the Nosler 170gr. partition bullet designed for the 30-30. I load 30-30, 300sav, and 30-06. The short blunt bullet should be a good fit in the 300 with its limited neck. I'am hoping it would also do well at woods range in the 06 driven about 2600fps. Thanks Frank C.

Bandmiller2; I have never used the nosler partition in 3030 win, But I have used them in other cartridges (30/06, 270 Weatherby, 7x57 Mauser, 6.5 Creedmmore), and have found that they make what is possibly the best hunting bullet available in a soft point. The nice thing about the Nosler Partition is that the front end will ALWAYS expand, and the back of the bullet Will Not. I killed two elk with one shot from a 7x57 the front killed a large cow and the back end went through the heart of a yearling bull which I could not see behind her.
As for using 3030 bullets in the 06 I would either load them at 3030 velocities or use 165 gr. partitions designed for the 06. I would be afraid that at 30/06 velocities bullets designed to open up at 500 to 600 fps slower would be too violent in their expansion.
the Partition is an excellent bullet accurate and deadly, but I am reminded when I used to shoot jack rabbits with a 300 Win Mag loaded with 150 gr flat nose for the 3030 . Let us just say that the expansion was extreme and violent. Brodie

I have some of these loaded very long so that they just fit in 308 magazine well and touch the rifling when chambered. Gun is a Remington 700 with long factory free bore. I was shooting just under 1” @100 yards with this bullet and n140 powder.
Some say Remington cuts the free bore longer because ogive of Round Nose type bullets extends out farther than Pointed soft points or pointed match type bullets. This keeps pressures and lawsuits down.

Old Coot; is that 150 gr 30-30 flat point 300 Win Mag load your vaporizer? ;)

Yes, they produced a red mist that hung for quite a while if there was no wind. The load was also very accurate. It surprised me with that flat point loaded just as hot as I could safely get it to go.
