At the range this morning with the Marlin 35 rem and shot a 15/16” three shot group with 200gr RCBS cast .3595 sized Hornady check and recluse lube. I know its only a three shot group but others were 1 1/4” and 1 3/8” I consider three fair for an old hunting rifle with bands and light barrel. Used 33gr of H-322 no special treatment of anything. Shot with little wind at 100yds. No leading but I still have to thin the recluse lube a little more, some smoke still. Frank C.

Always fun when an old gun shoots better than you think it should. Makes your day at the range when it comes together. GP

That is some dam good shooting! My old Marlin .35 is a shooter too, not quite as good but pretty good. I use mainly the Ranch Dog bullets in mine. I think my Marlin 336 .35 Rem. may be a good candidate for best all around hunter's rifle. It'll shoot light pistol type loads and some serious heavy loads too. When I'm out in the sticks alone with a bear tag it's a comfort to have the Marlin along. With a scope it'll reach out pretty good and in close it's fast if needed. Almost as handy as an 1894 Marlin but more oomph.

Turner 53, I'am fond of 35's I have a Savage 99 in 358 win. it to will hover around an inch with the 200gr RCBS cast. I must try some of the pistol bullets, if I recall I even have an old set of swaging dies for 38 cal. The 35 rem. is well though of up here in the northeast, Young fellas seem to want the latest speedsters, but the old timers hang in with the 35. Frank C.

I too have the 336 in 35 Rem and the 99 in 358. What are your favorite cast loads?

TRK, I'am still working up loads for the 35 rem. but so far 33gr of H-322 is the best. The 358 around 38gr of the same powder. Frank C.

Thanks. I've never tried H-322 in anything and have lots of other powders, I'll see what I have that comes close.

H-322 is a very handy middle burning powder not too much different than reloader 7. I bought a case years ago when it was gov. surplus for well under $10.00 a pound. Its a very good match for the 358 win. It meters well and is thrown accurately through most measures. Frank C.

I don't know about absolute favorite as there are a lot of good loads for my not too picky 336 .35 Rem. I'm doing last minute sight checks for deer and bear season. My usual practice is to take a scoped bolt action and a no-scoped lever action along and then pick which one to carry depending on the plan of the day. Yesterday I shot my handloads and some factory ammo too thru the Marlin .35. Surprisingly the sights work out to 100 yds. for both. The cb load is the Ranch Dog 359-190 over a very stout charge of old WC-844. I estimate muzzle velocity to be about 2200 fps. These kick and I'm not sure if my load is “by the book” pressure wise. Most .35 Rem. loading data is fairly conservative but I figure the Marlin 336 is chambered by the factory to much higher pressure cartridges than the .35 Rem. For a good read see if you can find Ranch Dog's article “The 100 Year Hunter". Got me and now I really enjoy this combination. I believe Marlin is still selling new .35! If you really want to get into it hop over to the Marlin Owner's Forum. A wealth of info re. the Marlin and the .35 Rem and a lot of enthusiasm too.

Just about the perfect lead alloy game cartridge isn't it?

Your right on that count Jeff you can push the lead about as fast as jacketed and the accuracy is close too. Is the 35 rem popular in NZ.?? Jeff does the US Navy still have an air station in Christchurch.?? Frank C.

Don't see many .35 Rems here.
The US Navy air station is now the National Guard. Just gearing up for the winter season on the 'Ice' right now. There is a C17 on the apron right this minute.
