4.2 -- Cast Bullet Cartridge - An assembled round consisting of a primed center-fire cartridge case, a propellant charge, and a bullet meeting the requirements of 4.1 Does “assembled round” mean fixed ammunition? Other than breach seating, If when the assembled rounds are chambered and then extracted, they leave the bullet in the bore, does the ammunition still comply with rule #4.2 ?

I don't know if it's changed but, back in the 90's when I shot CBA, I was told that it's fixed ammo if you can turn the cartridge upside down and the bullet does not fall out.

Probably should say “secured bullet” or such like.

Richard, At one time the CBA had a rule that the bullet should be fixed enough in the case and couldn't be shaken out by hand. That apparently proved difficult to enforce uniformly and some where along the line (before I got back into competition) the rule was eliminated. I know of no rule that says the cartridge must be capable of being chambered and extracted without leaving the bullet in the throat. I suspect that some competitors couldn't pass this test and since there is no rule against it we don't check for it. If I haven't understood your question please reply. John

John: That was the point of my question. So then it is legal under the rules to breech seat a bullet with a primed, loaded case and not have to shoot in the breech seat class.

For my 2 cents worth if you went ahead and fired that round who would know the difference? I'll bet that there are a lot of rounds fired that way. Just sayin'?

RD, Just my opinion but if the case and bullet is loaded into the rifles chamber as one unit then you are shooting fixed ammunition. Nothing official about my opinion.

The reality of what your suggesting isn't possible. A bullet is officially breech seated when it's loaded ahead of the case, to where most of the base is engraved into the throat.
My question now is, can you legally shoot machined, reduced capacity cases in CBA?

RD, the way I see it is that there is no Breech Seat class there is a Plain Base Class in which the bullet may be breech seated. This means to me that breech seating is an option and that you can also shoot a plain base bullet as fixed ammo if you like. This is my interpretation of the rule.
Frank, again as I see the rules if you used a machined case it would be legal in the Plain Base, Heavy Bench, and Unlimited Rifle and Unlimited Pistol classes. IF you were to use it in the Production and the new Light Production or Hunter class then it would not be legal and you would have to shoot a stand commercially produced case. My idea of the way things should be.

I believe in production class you must have a Saami chamber. if,you wish to go to the trouble of turning necks, I do not believe there are any restrictions.

I went back and re-read the rules and what I get is that it has the original chamber saami specks, in the production class you can recut the throat but not in the Hunter or Light Production. Factory chamber but you could make brass out of something else I suppose as long as it fit the factory chamber you would be good to go? At first I thought that factory chamber = factory brass but if you did make the brass out of another round you could get a thicker neck if wanted, or make a reduced capacity case? I don't see a rule against it as long as it fits the saami chamber.
