Are there any clubs either in NE. or IA, other than the Hawkeye R&P in Sioux city, that hold CBA matches? Haven't seen any. RD

I don't know of any in Iowa or Nebraska besides Sioux City.

I don't either. Always seemed kind of strange that there are none. I know that there are some pretty active and decent ranges in eastern Ne. There are a couple of active clubs down here in the SE corner of SD. And then northern Minn, which is a fair distance from here. Sure wish that there was. Just looking for some new territory for the summer. RD

Just east of Muscatine, IA about 10-15 miles into Illinois, there is the Wind Hill Range, that has an active schedule.

As for Minnesota, there are (3) clubs around the Twin Cities that have 4-matches each per year. Maybe 5-hours from Sioux Falls?

Northern MN has no CBA events. There are clubs in Duluth, Virginia and Hibbing that used to host IHMSA Handgun Silhouette matches but do not anymore. At one time we had (14) clubs in MN hosting IHMSA matches, now there are two. The Hibbing club has BPCR silhouette matches once a month but they are not NRA sanctioned, more of a fun match.

I am kind of lucky around these parts with Walley Enga and Scott Merchant, both hosting a number through out the summer. All within 50-60 miles or so. And visited with a couple of guys at KC this year that were from the Minneapolis area. But that is about 6 1/2 hrs. from here. Just looking for some new shooters to harass. All these pilgrims around here know me too well. Nothing like a little new shoulder to shoulder competition to find out how things “really work". RD

Have you thought about starting your own BR match? If you shoot score only it's a breeze.

Yes Pat, I have and I would. We have a pretty nice facility here, fifty yard pistol with falling plates, a 10-12 bench 100 yd., all under cover. and a 200 yd range on the end. But the 200 yd end has no benches or cover and is set up for those NRA high power shooters with the pits and pull down target frames. Might could get by on the 200 by building some different targets frames that would work but no benches.   Spose could make the 200 yd. stage all offhand though.......That is if R. Brinkman didn't show up.   RD

2 of our 3 metro area clubs shoot 100-yards only. You don't have to offer both distances to host a match.

Didn't realize that that was an option. What's the course, score and group both at 100 then? I think that there are some shooters in the club that would be interested in that. At least the military rifles. Because I've visited with a few at the range that have and shoot them.

Temp. has hit 40, so am going to get some trigger time.

We combine the Military and Traditional events so everyone can play using the same range commands and times.

10-rounds for score in 15-minutes, do that twice and then 10-round groups are 15-minutes, do that twice and/or 5-round groups are 10-minutes, do that 4-times. You want 20-rounds total for each element. We start off with the group event(s) so (especially iron sight military) people can their rifles zeroed a bit before the score event.

Supposed to be 32-35F here on Wed. so I'm going out to play with a Marlin lever action.

Thanks Tom:

Are these matches sanctioned by the CBA or are they just something that you do on your own?

Might give that some serious thought. Maybe throw the idea out at our monthly meeting and then have the secretary put something in the news letter a few times this winter and see what happens.

If you pay the $8 per match date, they are sanctioned events.

Send me your dates and and a check written to the CBA for $8 for each desired match date and I'll get your dates onto the calendar that shows up in each issue of the Fouling Shot. Note that you cannot run a match the weekend of the CBA National Tournament. And....you can let non-CBA members shoot as long as you don't turn away any CBA members that want to shoot. Those non member's scores won't be listed in the FS and they cannot be recognized as a “match winner".

You'll need to run some blank copies of the Tech Data Sheet found on the home page of the CBA website. Each shooter fills one out and gives it to you at the start of the match. (Some clubs weigh guns and some don't. They will be weighed at the NT.)

Once you get that far send me a note and I'll explain what you do with the executed Tech Data sheets, etc.

Sometimes being a Match Director is a bit thankless but if you really want to have a match sometimes you have to step forward and organize things. Don't be afraid to ask shooters to help hang and retrieve targets, etc. The CBA thanks you for considering being a Match Director!!!

Good luck!

Regards,

Tom

Thanks for the info Tom. As of now, it just an idea floating around in this feeble brain. But at least now I can present it at a monthy meeting and have some confidence that I know what I'm talking about.

RD, let me know if you can use a hand with any tech sheets or scoring sheets to get things into the format for posting. Also, I would love to come over for a match in Yankton. Maybe 100 yards for score, group and and offhand (all at 100) We all can use some offhand experience. :)
