At the risk of being labeled dense I confess to ignorance in how to get started in postal matches. Could, would someone be so kind as to explain the process to me please ?

Daniel,
Thanks for asking the question. I too have never done it simply because I never figured out how to do it. There are no directions. At least, not that I could find. We could do better as an association if we could streamline this process, generate a "how to" guide, and get more members to compete.
We could also list members in a specific geographic area who would like to get together monthly or so to shoot together, I know there are members in my area but short of searching through every member myself, I would never know them. Perhaps I am the only member in the Raleigh (Triangle) area.
With rifle in hand, I confidently go forth into the darkness.

The postal matches are an excellent way to find out how you are REALLY doing. So often we all say, "Oh, I threw that one." On a match target, they all count!

Bullshop,
A list of CBA postal matches are on the CBA website. Unfortunately, not all of them have prices listed for the targets. if you need more information get in touch with Michael Kastning, Director of CBA postal competition. His contact information is on the website and inside the front cover of the website.
The way it works is you pick out the matches you want to shoot and send Mike the money for the official targets. He sends you the targets. You shoot them and send them back. He scores them and publishes the match reports in the Fouling Shot and on the website.
It doesn't cost much and is a great way to enjoy some informal competition with other shooters.

There are 21 matches listed under the "Matches" tab on our home page. SITES should read SIGHTS.
Unless otherwise stated, each set of group targets costs $4.00, score $3.50. For full match details, ask for free copy of our Postal Match Guide. PLEASE BE SURE TO SPECIFY GROUP OR SCORE AND SITES USED WHEN ORDERING MAKE ALL CHECKS PAYABLE TO "CBA POSTAL MATCH” & MAIL TO: Postal Match Guide.

Breakthrough !!! With assistance from my lovely bride we have located the list. Now I have more questions. Does the due date mean when the target has to be returned by or when the money is due for the target ? On the matches that show multiple months due date does that mean a target for the match can be returned on any of those months ? Does it also then mean that that match can be entered three months in a row ?
Also there seems to be a lot of overlap on requirements such as Military BR the Military big bore bench rest. Are they or can they not be the same ? For instance can I shoot my 1884 trapdoor in both matches ? Sorry for all the questions but I am so easily confused but on the plus side I am like an elephant in that once I get it it stays got.
I have wanted to try this for a long time but not being a computer person never figured out how . One thing I can assure though is that I am a shooter or as they say in south Africa a skeeter.

The due date s when the target is to be returned. Multiple dates means you get x# targets and return one each month. You can shoot in any class where your gun meets the definition of that class but most folks find it difficult to be competitive shooting a Trapdoor against an 03-A3. It would be appropriate for the Big Bore matches.
Best would be to send Mike an e-mail letting him know what you want to shoot. He'll fix you right up.

"if it is not on paper, it doesn't exist" Sort of like the business rule; "if not written on paper, it doesn't exist." Especially now that so much is electronic and unreliable.

I am again getting the feeling this is not for me. I emailed the director for match rules with no results. If I use the match rules icon al I get is a default This time I thought I was making progress but never made the goal post. I give up ! I will just continue competing against myself with cows for company. Thank to all that tried to help but I guess I am to challenged to figure out the process. All the best to you clever fellows that have.

For some reason that escapes me the CBA can't seem to fix our website so that the menu on this page works the same as it does on the HOME page.
To find the information you have to first go to the HOME page, then from there go to matches> match rules> postal rules.
You can find the list of matches (seems like you have already found it) in the forum with the menu on the far right under CBA MATCH INFORMATION> Postal Competitions (click) then 2017 Match Schedule (dates don't as far as I am aware change, same every year) These are the end dates when targets are due to be returned.
Snail mail Mike a check or MO for the fees and your choices for matches and he will send out targets.
Look for a PM from me.
