hi ... and welcome !
i started casting about 1955 ... and knew Nothing !
so i decided to follow the scientific method, get organized, and make a list of everything known for sure about cast bullets.
to date i have gathered but a single line on the back of a rumpled business card ... " bullet must be a snug fit in the throat ' .... it is so written ..... we must obey ....
*********************
what seems to work well is to use either a soft lead upset or some Cerrosafe to make an image of the throat and beginning of the rifling in your chamber. measure this image and size to just under that throat diameter.
you can use the " search " button here on this forum to find details on using the Cerrosafe and lead slug upset.

then, after we do the one thing that is proven to be most valuable .. .. we can get back to the more fun mysteries of cast bullets ... lubes, gas checks, alloys, more or less grooves, and many other unsettled nuances of good results with shooting lead ...
hoping this helps and that we hear how this latest project is going ... we are still hopeful we will find another known rule ( g ) ... ken
