In trying to figure out just exactly what tapers John Ardito and Don Eagan used for the tapered throats and tapered bullets I ran across a nifty site that calculates degrees of taper. All you need is major and minor diameters and length of taper.

The site is    omnicalculator.com

good luck

I think Ardito was 1 degree IIRC. Larry Jennings 30 BR he set records with the throat started at .314 with 1 degree taper. He had a bump die to match.

"if it was easy we'd let women do it" don't tell my wife I said that!

Don't know if this helps or not but this is what I have in my notes.  The one on the left is supposed to be the Egan.  Can't give credit to who posted it because it was a couple years back.  Accurate design is on the right.  Bill C

I have the 31-230G mold and when run thru my Ardito bump die, it is the most accurate bullet in my Ardito rifle. The mold supplied with the rifle was an Eagan MX4-30A. The degree of taper for that bullet as cast matches the degree of Taper in my Ardito rifles throat. I digress.

I really just wanted to let folks know that degree calculator was out there and easy to use.

Ross,

If the 31-230G bullet is the most accurate bullet in your Ardito rifle, I am pretty sure that you actually have a Hart barrel with a 1 in 12 twist and not a 1 in 14 twist..
