I have 500 # of clip on WW that is at 18-1 approx. I'd like to add pure lead to get a 20-1 or 25-1 mix. Anyone play with this for there cast bullet breech seat rifles? thankyou

Well I hope this helps....
18:1, 20:1, and 25:1 are binary alloys in that they are made up of only two metals. Lead and Tin.
Wheel weights of yesteryear, contain many metals including Arsenic, Antimony, tobacco juice, bubble gum, wrappers, steel clips, bolts, and of course, motor oil and grease. Clip on WW metal had a BHN of around 12. To get a BHN equivalent to 20:1 (which is 10) add 9 lb of pure lead to 10 lb of clip on wheel weights. A 50/50 mix is pretty close. To get a BHN equivalent to 25:1 which is 9, add 7 lb of pure lead to 1 lb of wheel weight.
WARNING: Clip on wheel weights today are ZINC, not lead. If you have modern WW metal, it will completely pollute any older WW metal you may have with zinc. Believe me when I tell you that you do NOT want zinc in your alloy.
I would suggest purchasing 20:1 binary alloy from Roto Metals and casting the WW metal into handgun bullets or something for the 30-30 rifle.
With rifle in hand, I confidently go forth into the darkness.

This is A block of WW from a dragster many years ago. Cleaned up nicely. The hardness usin the cabin tree lead tester was same as a 18-1 lead /tin. thankyou,Pete I think better off to sell it to pistol guys and stick with good lead and tin for my rifles !

- I still have a large supply of old clip in ww.I regularly mix it with pure lead and use it in my schuetzen rifles. No scientfic method! just mostly lead and a few ingots of ww.
- im a fan of "shoot it and see" rather than worry.
"if it was easy we'd let women do it" don't tell my wife I said that!
