This year I have been saving up my culls, visually flawed bullets. In the past when flawed bullets made it past me and were found during a match I have shot them at the score sighter target. Twice they have "scored" an X. I have come up with a method to randomly shoot my culls and track where each lands at 100 yards. I'll be using my Hunter Class Ruger Hawkeye in .308 Win. All bullets are straight lyno and lubrisized with Lyman NRA formula. Hornady gas checks. RCBS 30-180-SP.
My method is using a randomly generated list of non-repeatable numbers wright a three digit number on each one and note in a log what the nature of the defect(s). I will load them all, then mix the loads up before boxing. I will also do a control of non flawed bullets from the same lot, Some of the flaws are raised sprues, some are rounded bases or bands. Some will have visible flaw on the ogive. I will attempt to number on the unflawed side. I will use the CBA score target and make a note of where each one by number impacts.
My hypothesis is that flawed bullets generally do not enlarge a group in most cases, however results will be limited to one rifle, one mold, and one shooter.
Is this random enough to be useful data?
