Found a Nagant tucked away in a closet. I thought the barrel was toast but after a few hours of scrubbing its presentable. I'd like to shoot it without spending a lot of money on dies and such so if anyone can spare a few cases relatively cheap I'd appreciate it.

Get yourself on the notify list at Midway for the PPU brass.

With rifle in hand, I confidently go forth into the darkness.

As much as I'm going to shoot this thing buying new brass would be a waste of good money. I'm hoping I can find a die in my pile that'll neck size it. This isn't a serious endeavour in any way shape or form

That Rooskie is a pretty fat round. I don't think it will go into a 308 die far enough.  I'll tell you something that I have used. If you have a set of dies for the 32acp the sizer die will size the neck for you.

I'll have to check. I know there's a set for the 32 S&W maybe that'll work.

Yes I bet it would and the 308 and 7.62 Rooskie are close in legnth and the collet die would let the Rooskie fit inside it.

Thanks Glenn. Did you have to buy a bigger rod so the neck isn't too tight for cast bullets or can neck diameter be adjusted with the die as is. I know absolutely nothing about those dies.

Not sure of dimensions of Russian brass,I have found 308 Winchester Full Length die makes an excellent Neck Size die for 303 British.

The Lee Collet 308W neck sizer works perfectly to NS 7.62x54R cases.  Just get a larger washer to slip over the case after the case is in the shell holder.  That washer "spacer" then corrects for the difference in case length from case head to front of shoulder between the two cases.

Adjust the die body in the press to give the amount of neck tension for the bullet diameter used.  The neck does not have to be sized solidly against the mandrel.

Concealment is not cover.........

Knowing pat i he just wants to try a few rounds through the rifle he has. I don't see him investing in the LEE collet die and more new brass unless the rifle shoots spectacular. Am I right Pat?

You make me sound like a cheapskate but you're partially right. I broke down and ordered one of those Classic Loaders for it and have brass coming from Ed Harris. I have a .311 expander die so for the few times I'll probably shoot the gun this'll get me by. After the first time having it at the range I'll probably be asking myself why did I bother. But then again when you love to get out and shoot it'll all makes sense.... sorta.

Brass coming to you is already FL sized. You will still need to mouth flare a bit to seat cast bullets.

Nah, didn't mean it that way. Your message was clear to me that at first you really didn't want to get into the Rooskie. You watch though fellow member, they  grow on you.  Now if you happen to have this mould  it shoots good in the Rooskies. That the Lyman 314299. Good luck to you.
