That’s just plain scary. Whenever I’m at our club I introduce myself to others and do a quick chat to get a feel for their competence. Our club has a strict screening process and an inflexible safety policy but I still want to get a feel for who’s on the line with me.
That said, 99 times out of a hundred the shooters are engaged in the shooting sport and they’re comfortable talking about their equipment and asking questions. Just friendly chit chat, not an inquisition.
Having a chat with someone you see shooting loads like in the pictures would have been helpful. I’m a RO as well. I walk the line and say hi to folks. Heck I even had some cheap business cards printed up so someone can contact me if they have any questions.
I was up in Holton MI at a competition when a shooter fired a round with his cleaning rod left in the in the bore. He walked away with a few facial scratches died within a couple hours because one of the cuts were from a piece of brass that caused brain damage.
A “Measured Response” is as effective as tongue lashing a stuck door.
