Over the years I’ve had a few articles in the Fouling Shot along with some cover photos.

For some reason I went looking to find my CBA join date. I saved my first issue of the Fouling Shot dated Jan/Feb 1986. (I must have joined in late 1985.) I saw that the CBA was running a handgun silhouette postal. At the time all I shot was IHMSA handgun silhouette matches, so the postals looked like something I should try, so I joined.

Looking that old issue over, I see Glenn Latham was the editor.

I don’t know when Glenn started as the editor but it’s been at least 39-years…..wow!

That’s a lot of years of reading, editing, composing, communicating, attending Annual Meetings, etc.

The CBA and all of us Fouling Shot readers owe Glenn a huge thank you!

Thanks for the kind words guys.  A short history:  I took over from Dave Finch at issue #54, March-April 1985, then took a hiatus from 1993 to 1999, and have been back at it since.  In my early days the Fouling Shot was literally "pasted up."  Articles were typed up on a sheet that had faint "non-repro blue" lines to gauge the column width, then cut into strips and hot wax was applied to the back.  The strip was then pasted onto a piece of thin card stock.  A lot of labor involved back then.  Now of course it's all done on the computer in a desktop publishing program (Adobe InDesign, used to be Page Maker I think).  The .pdf is sent to the print shop and they do their magic and mail the magazine out to the members.

Why do I still do it?  It's been a part of me for almost half my life.  I guess I wouldn't know "life" without it.  However, I don't have a death grip on the job.  If somebody else wants to take over...

I have written for other publications, some paid for the words. Some were done for work and they were work. Some were heavy lifting. When the lifting got too much, I could always sit down and write a CBA article for fun. Writing for the CBA is a pleasure and the reason for that is Glenn Latham.

Thanks Glenn you do the hard work.

Steve, you make it sound like your Fouling Shot articles are "light weight." They are ANYTHING but! Not too many FS articles are discussed here on the Forum, but yours often are.
