I have never read anything about it. But has anyone powder coated linotype bullets?? If so did it aid in accuracy or hinder it. I'm about to cast a few to try in my 223. And just wondered if anyone did this. These are plain base bullets. Thanks john

If I were shooting linotype with powder coating, I wouldn't shoot bullets that are as much oversize as normally lubed, soft cast bullets.

I don't shoot linotype, but I shoot gas checked, powder coated bullets that are very hard. In my opinion for linotype coated bullets, I wouldn't go over .001" over size. Some noted shooters shoot .002" bullets of medium hardness. Another point of interest; don't jam the bullet up into the throat with your hard coated bullets. I have better luck by letting the bullet jump a little, but not much. My bullets are very concentric and to my experimenting .001" works better than .002"

Would you say a fellow that is shooting jacketed velocities with various caliber rifles and very small groups using powder coated bullets knows what he's doing? This goes for fast twist calibers too!  I would and from what I've seen and read on many forums there are a tremendous amount of mistakes being made. I'm not going to point them out, it's best to tell you who the guy is and where he is located and go read what he does. Better yet join up and pm him. His name is geargnasher (Ian real name) and he's found here: artfullbullet.com

As far as not getting more replies to your question. One thing that for the most part makes this forum unique among internet forums is if people don't have the answer or never tried something they have the tendency to pipe down and don't give opinions or say anything. I know it's uncommon when it comes to internet forums whether talking about guns, motorcycles, or going to the moon, but it is what it is.......and better for it

IMHO, a cast shooter should study everything available that this Cast Bullet Association has available to form a stable platform of how cast bullets actually work

before venturing into the outlying cast bullet information wilderness that is so readily available in quantity but not necessarily in quality ...

Ken, you are so correct about the not necessarily good quality of cast bullet information available. I was duped, by a lot of this, when I first seriously got into cast bullet shooting.
