I suspose it is just bragging, but I think most of us have taken pictures of our really great targets. While looking for another photo today, I found this one. It was my first CBA 100 6X with a Springfield 1903.

Anyone else want to brag a little?

Isn't it a good feeling when you shoot good groups. Hummer groups !

my lucky group with the 30-06 Ruger #1.

 Group before about 1.5" and group after about 2" IIRC.

"if it was easy we'd let women do it" don't tell my wife I said that!

Bragging target.

This is my contribution, it taught me a big lesson.  You will always remember this day. B.S. you couldn’t remember 6 months later.  Now I document, document, document.

The date spring / summer 2009

The load

7.62 NATO

Ideal U311291 4 cavity

Alloy Linotype

Lube Javelina 2138F

Size .308

18gr 5744 - Volume measured using charging disks so it could be around 18.5 to 17.5, depending on the powder lot

Cases LC90

Wads Dacron batting cut with 5/8” hole punch

Federal Gold Medal Mag primers

Loaded on a Lee Loadmaster with a Bonanza seating die

Gas checks probably Ideal slip on gas checks but may be Hornady crimp on

The rifle

Remington 40X Range Master stamped 7.62 NATO not .308 WIN, it is the one with the clip guides milled into the receiver bridge.  Fully stock condition, no modifications

Redfield International peep

The distance 100 yards

Conditions

Intermittent breeze out of the South around 15 mph and firing during the lulls except for 3 rounds to see how much drift.  The main group is a little oblong from the gentle winds.

 

 

This is a backing target that had three targets over it.  The date is not known now.  Total in the group is at least 50 maybe 60.  I know originally I thought it was 50 to 75 but it would probably be 3 targets of 20 each or 2 with 20 and one with 10.  At this time only GOD knows the actual number. If I fired this today I would even check with the NWS for air pressure and humidity data.  Or wake up.

Now if I could do this again I would be surprised.  I have not fired a round for over 4 years, I am taking care of my wife of 53 years and have no idea when I will get back to the range.  Funny thing when I was done I went to the berm and found a hole as large as my forearm and as deep as my elbow in the damp sand.  I would have liked to have heard the thwumping sound they made.
