Well.....MidwayUSA had #10 percussion caps for sale yesterday. I got my email notice about it and gritted my teeth as I purchased 1000 caps for $165.44. That's caps, shipping, hazmat, and taxes. Good Lord. It wasn't that long ago the LGS had tins of 100 for $4.99 each. After checking today, they are all gone. At that price too. I think that's it for me. I'll sharpen the muzzle to a point and make a dagger out of the 1860 Army.

I am just shaking my head.

With rifle in hand, I confidently go forth into the darkness.

Gunbroker sale, 1000 CCI bid up to $330 + $19 shipping in mid June. Other sales were in the $200-$260 range.

It might be time to consider other alternatives. Paper roll caps are available. Filling the nipple with 4F and sticking on a roll cap works with a rifle or single shot. Maybe problematic for revolvers.

We tried strike anywhere matches and they worked but not 100%. New matches are different, may not work.

Back then it was not cost but availability in the country and no mail order. People had to improvise.

The price increases are taking the fun out of shooting.

A rip off I think. The Walmart stores in this area get a carton of  CCI #11 caps every year before hunting season. They were a little early this year as they have already hit the shelves. I know that is not a lot to go around but the price is less than $6 a hundred. I don't think Walmart is going to sell at a loss.

There are four stores in this area,  all four get caps. I get 1 maybe 2 tins a year and leave the rest.

In the USA it is #10 and #11 caps. You do know that #10 caps differ in size between Remington and CCI, as do the #11 caps?

All I have seen being sold so far this year are the #10 caps. We are however, in the pre-hunting season, so the mfgs will be stocking retailers shortly with their annual run of caps. After that, they dry up again for a year. When you see them offered, you should purchase what you think you will need for the year. In your LGS, you may find single tins. The online suppliers will be selling them in bricks of a thousand apparently.

With rifle in hand, I confidently go forth into the darkness.

For you Civil reenactors, you can expect the highest cap prices to date. With shipping, hazmat, and sales tax, the musket caps are near $200 per thousand.
