Optical Booster for Old Scope

I have a Lyman Alaskan AW on my 03 Springfield. I like the scope, but I want a but higher power. I'm thinking of ordering an optical booster to use at longer ranges. Have any of you used one? Cid you like it? Thanks.

I have used two over the years: a 2X Lietchert (sp.?) and a 3X Texan. Both worked as advertised, but be aware that 2X reduces field of view 50% and eye relief 25%. The 3X field of view by 2/3 and eye relief 33%. The 2X was on a 32/20 and the 3X on a Hornet, so it didn't make problems for me. When assembling make very sure lenses are clean, air is dry and use optical grease on the threads! HTH, Ric

Ric in Yakima is correct, everything has its price. Using one many years ago on a 6X Weaver on a Ruger #1 in 6mm Remington, the eye relief became critical with the heavier loads. I had bought this at the Aledo Gun Show thinking I would have a cheap 10X.

It went back to the Aledo Gun Show and was traded for a Litschert long eye relief adaptor. This was put on a Weaver 4X mounted on a Ruger .30 Carbine. This gave twice the eye relief and one-half the power. Again, not quite satisfactory. About this time, a pistol shooter mounted a 2X Leupold on a .45 Auto and the offerings for pistol scopes boomed.

The Litscherts adapters were a fine quality item. I have owned many and they all work fine. Still have two that up a Lyman Alaskan from 2.5 to 10X as on my R F Sedgley short action short action 22 Hornet.
