Just got a notice that NOE ran some 227-79 gr molds. I know some of you guys were hoping for that one. It is one of my favorites in a faster twist 223.

I’ve used this bullet for several years in my 22 BR with a 1:8 twist.

For me, #2 or 20% monotype and range scrap. Super hard was not better.

That hardness is from bullets cast in 2022. Starting in 2023, I’ve drifted to softer alloys. For the CPA 38-55 and CSA .40-70, my alloys are 7-8 bhn.

Linotype for higher velocity loads. Softer 10/1 alloys for lower velocity.

Matching the mv to alloy hardness is interesting. Of similar value ate other parameters including barrel twist rate, depth of rifling and number of grooves. Soft alloy does not always translate into bore leading.

But then my experience may not conform to everyone else's.
