New Micrometer

A new to me micrometer from Mitutoyo: the QuantuMike.

The big difference is that the thread pitch is 2mm (.0787") rather than the normal .025".  Changing to a different dimension is 3x faster.  Also, it can be opened up to clean the faces faster.  No fine scale on the barrel though.  Typical great Mitutoyo quality.

Not cheap; a buy once, cry once proposition.  I use this for my hobby machining and shooting pursuits and it is a pleasure to use every time.  The large display, not unique to this, is also wonderful.  Saves me a lot of squinting.

I am so impressed I wanted to let the CBA forum know.

I think I need one. Do I have to mortgage the house or only the car?

Very nice add on to your equipment list. Did you ever pick up a tool that you use all the time and realize it isn’t on anyone’s top ten things you gotta have to cast/reload? A vernier caliper would make the top 5. But I can’t imagine not having a digital temp meter with a probe. Bill.

A “Measured Response” is as effective as tongue lashing a stuck door.

That looks like a nice mic. Most of the young people i know think micrometers are fancy "C" clamps.

I worked at Starrett tool Co for 26 years so this is blasphemy to me, lol  Starrett has the same type of mic, and is Starrett is an American Co. located in Athol Ma.  Please give them a look.

Yes,

they have a line of measuring tools made in China.

My first choice is always Athol Mass. made Starrett.  I did first purchase the Starrett digital mike, made in China, and it is a shame that Starrett put their name on it.  The Mitutoyo is superior in all ways.

If I was 20 years younger and didn't have 30 years experience using a Brown & Sharp vernier mic and was somewhat biased against digital, battery operated measuring instruments, I would give that mic serious thought.

I bought this micrometer stand on Amazon 12$ cast iron.

Keeps your hot hands off the micrometer.

When you need a third hand or are doing precise measurements it is priceless.
