I really like the idea of the particularly hideous Christmas pullovers you northern hemisphere folk like to wear come the festive season.  Thing is, down here at Christmas it is summer (yes, it's true) and as such the likelihood of passing out from heat exhaustion whilst festooned in a dashing jumper is rather high.  I have a couple of Christmas themed shirts and in recent times made holiday face masks (don't miss that!) but this year have upped the ante.  I bust out the mother-inlaws 50 year old Janome sewing machine and knocked up a vest.

My late mother taught us how to sew and over the years I have made all manner of garments and items.

I remember my grandmother sewing on her peddle operated Singer. She had her machine sitting in front of west window for good light. My mother gave her an electric, but she refused to use it.

Pretty spiffy, I worked in a textile mill making fake fur for some years. They had me crocheting and sewing among other things.

This is my mother's treadle Singer and mother-inlaw's early 70's Janome.

I made the bottom half of a Singer treadle machine into a brass polisher. I bungeed a paint can to the treadle and rigged a motor and belt. Worked great but every once in a while the can’s lid came off spewing brass and media everywhere.
