I think that they do have a new unit that is smaller and similar to the Garmin. The one pictured looks like the older unit, which works just takes a bit of getting used to. If I can do it most anyone with a bit on computer knowledge can make it work. I have been using the older version for several years and it works just fine. You do have to properly set it up and get it aligned with the target for it to work. One of the things that you need to know about the old version is that it needs some horizonal space to work properly. Get it too close to a wall, berm, building, row of columns and that will interfere with the readings. It will read .22 cal pellets out to 100 yards and of course anything bigger.
