I am thinking about trying hot lube for my pistol shooting. I am getting to much lube blowing out the barrel of my 45's. Is Lyman Orange magic ok or should I try something else.

... not clear on what " hot lube " is ...

but in general, we are finding that for most cast loads we are able to use less and less lube ...  up to no lube at all on some cast loads ...

*************

some high pressure loads seem to do better with complete, but thin, coverage ... and many loads do worse accuracy-wise with too much lube.

it is interesting that after 150 years of serious shooting cast, we are still not entirely sure about what lube actually does anyway.

*********

in my own case, i use a gooey greasy lube and just apply what comes off my gooey fingers as i pick up the bullet to seat it.  this for rifle loads of 1100-1600 fps.

and finally, it seems that if the bullet fits snugly in the throat or chambers to keep blow-by down, you can get by with less lube.   in fact, even though we call it " lube ". it probably doesn't just " lube " .....

hope the above helps, and yes Lyman orange magic is one that gives good results. .... and one of the easiest is Lee Liquid, especially thinned about 1-1 with mineral spirits to thin it down to dry faster and less messy.

hope the above helps ...

I googled Hot Lube.  Here are the results:https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=hot+lube  You could try one of these.

I use Lee liquid in the 45-45-10 for my Lee tumble lub bullets but I never tried it on a Lyman style lub groove bullet. Should I lub-size and shoot or lub-size and lub again and shoot?

HA HA

I need some Warming Lubricant to make my bullets feel nice!

Great Stuff

Seriously, I used Lyman Orange Magic excursively in 45 ACP and 38 Special target loads for years.

In Ransom Rest testing, there were many lubes that gave equal accuracy in target loads. Of the accurate lubes Orange Magic left less gunk in the guns. This is important in a day-long match where you may shoot 300+ rounds.

If you load to higher velocity Alox 50/50 is the best bet in commercially available lubes.
