Gas checks coming off when I fire 6.5 Creedmoor

Has anyone had this happen? I am seating them by hand making sure the bullet is all the way in and then sizing. My bullets have been powder coated before I do this.

I always shoot a new load through a box before I put on my suppressor, there are 2 wholes about 4 inches apart and about 10 feed from the muzzle. Man I am glad I checked before I put the suppressor on!

Are you putting the gas checks on the bullets as you seat them in the case? Are the cartridge cases resized at all? Most folks use crimp on gas checks that are applied to bullets, sized and lubed or powder coated then loaded into cases.

which bullet and what brand gc?

some GC's don't dig into the bullet well.

do you see the same behavior in other calibers using this combination?

I shoot the Lyman 266469 in my 6.5CM cast in #2 alloy, Sage's checks seated with an NOE gas check seating die then sized. No extra holes in target @ 100yds, no way to know if they come off on the ride. Have done plain cast with lube and seat/size after powder coating.

As above, which components are you using and what is your process?

Not all gas checks crimp on, and I don't quite understand the part about crimping gas checks on after seating the bullet in the case.

Try installing gas check before powder coat. Maybe gas check shank of bullet is too small. You can unlarge mould slightly with reamer or sandpaper wrapped around dowel. IMO gas check should slip on with slight resistance before sizing.

I've done this a number of times. I use my gas check expander to flare the 'check mouth very slightly and set them on my baking tray first, then seat the bullet base in place. After baking I size the bullet and never have lost a gas check when doing this. Alternatively, I have installed and crimped the check before tumbling in powder, some powders seem to be able to creep into the gap between the base and the check.

If a gas check comes off, it will not make it to 100 yards. My first wind flag is at 20 yards and has multiple gas check hits on the vane.
