NOE 260 145, PC, 18 BHN, 0.268 sizing for 0.269 throat, Hornady GC, loaded over 40gr original H4831 (read, coal) sparked by a Winchester large rifle primer for 2050fps.  Three shot only at 50m/55y.

I have found I can shoot air cool wheel weight (nominal 9.5 BHN) to 1500fps and 14 BHN alloy to 1800fps but more than that needs a harder mix such as the 18 BHN or lino.

Plain base or gas check with powder coat?

Gas checked. My theory is that fast twist will appreciate a bit more to grip on to.

Do all of the 6.6 Carcanos use a gain twist?

nice shooting. reminds me abit of the lee 150gr cruise missle. gain twist or straight rifling?

Not gain twist. The Cruise Missile is longer and 175gr. My rifle shoots it well but with slightly oval holes. Par for the course. The wallabies I hit with them never mentioned it however.

There are straight rifling Cacano's but they are a tad harder to find. I have a Carcano carbien with gain twist, not cut down from a rifle, and most that you've heard about gain twist that is negative is not true. My little carbine shoots pretty decent and it has a very short barrel. I've pushed cast slugs through the barrel and the gain twist really doesn't mess up the bullet like I've often heard. I stayed away from the Carcanos because of all the bad I heard about them for many years. When I finally got one I started to appreciate them. They are not as weak an action as many have said they are either. I'll tell you something you may not know about a Carcano, they are controlled feed. When you are stripping a round out of the magazine the rim will start up under the extractor. If it doesn't it's a very good way of ruining your extractor. BTW my little carbine likes pc bullets. Another BTW I haven't been able to get good results with LEE's new 6.5 bullet with the long tapered nose.
